Sorry for the lack of updates. Busy RL schedule combined with having all your in-game dreams shattered really does put a damper on wanting to report. But let's take a look at how things started and how they are now.

How it started

How it's going

I really regret going for Steel instead of Rifling now.  Need 9 turns of research at max to finish Steel, but I'm losing money at 0% thanks to all my units.  Hopefully some of that can sorted out when I assault Pisa, but obvious I just cannot build more units now. Yuri probably is building a navy to finish the job, seeing as he is not entertaining any of my calls for peace.

Asked Commodore for any spare health, I suppose I should try begging from Krill as well.

Also, I had to share this hilarious quest I received the very turn I lost my holy city

This game really has been twisting the knife with some of these quests/events.

Last turn I landed on Pisa and killed a few of Yuri's privateers. This turn I had this waiting for me at the start of the turn:

I took it and revolted into Free Market & Org Religion. We were losing 8gpt at 0% gold; after the turn rolled we bounced up to +40gpt.

Why did Yuri decide to peace out? I think he might be wanting to jump in on the Commodore dogpile. Krill & Thoth have both declared war, and if they can grind Commodore down on the oceans then potentially they can burn his coastal cities and catch up. All I know is my odds of surviving have increased. I would say Yuri is the top threat to my longterm survival, but Krill is right behind him.

Here's the New Empire, desperately building economy infra:

Do you have a feasible long term goal? Just survive and claim a 2nd or 3rd place finish if enough others get wiped out? Do you think you can take back anything in an everyone-vs-Commodore dogpile?

Sadly I don't think I can take anything back. My lands are too "front-and-center" for any showdown between Thoth and Commodore. I'd have to hope that they both lose somehow for me to be able to swoop in and reconquer lands- otherwise the other would just take the opportunity to pounce on me again. I think my best bet to recapture territory comes from taking my cities back from Yuri. I'm going to have culture on the mainland as long as I hold onto Great Dane, so I'm going to shuttle some workers over and build a fort on that 2nd ring grasslands workshop.

Survive until concession is my best chance at anything. Just need to hope that my islands are too out-of-the-way for anybody to care about them. But first thing: I need to fix the economy.

I wonder... was it a strategic error on Commodore's part to attack me? Sure, he eliminated me from any potential dogpile, but he also made things a whole lot easier for Thoth - and Thoth has a far better economy & army than I would have had Commodore let me be.

Yuri is building up a navy in plain sight and I have a plan:

Landed 3 workers on the mainland to build a fort. This is purely a distraction for the real plan, though.

Been whipping buildings where I think it will get me Steel faster, and then building Wealth otherwise. I think I can start turning on science for Steel after this turn, and get it before the enforced peace is done. Then cannons and drydocks should let me be able to defend until oil-based navies come online.

I was all set to declare war on Yuri this turn, but then this happened:

So instead I sent him this:

And yes, I'm serious that I was going to attack. Originally I was going to try to get a Nav-2 Caravel, but then Yuri never reacted to my fort building:

So I was able to burn his fleet because he didn't have any land units on the fort tile they were all staged in.

But there's no point to it now.

As a lurker I am obligated to point out there are reasons, because lurkers demand blood.

1) hammer hammer hammer
2)  REVENGE!!!!
3) To teach a lesson about relying on forts to hold ships

My revenge will be seeing Yuri eliminated before me.

He should use those privateers against Comm's destroyer. I would in his spot.

Nothing more sad than having a chance to kill some stuff in a really fun and satisfying way and then not doing it due to circumstances changing.
