Civ4 AI Survivor 2: The AI-stralian Outback

The most dominant AI performance that I've ever seen (Gandhi), combined with one of the worst (Darius)? That was a crazy game, though I had to catch it on replay.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Called it. Shame I bet on Saladin rather than Gandhi though, only ended up with 1 point. tongue

Awesome draw for the next game. Very pleased that Peter got St Petersburg, makes the map much easier to read.

In the first sim I ran, Darius ate Gilgamesh. However a subsequent test, the Indians just out expanded him. He was crippled by inability to push his cultural borders against them. In addition he for some reason never really build units and stagnated despite having the opportunity to conquer Saladin and Gilgamesh. What a flaccid AI.

Already up to five for the wildcard game! Will it be split if it gets too large, or will we just slog through a one-off 10+ player game? smile

Looks like an easy bet for first to die in Game Four... Louis is a generally poor survivor candidate, with one of the worst starts and a central location to boot. Snuggled between Cathy and Ragnar too.

The winner is much harder to pick... the most likely candidates are Justinian and Catherine in some order, but Ragnar and Charlemagne might also have a good chance if they takes out Louis, and Bismarck is no slouch either. The only one I'm reasonably confident won't win is Peter, who doesn't have a history of doing well in my own games.

Man I would love a massive 10+ player game, such Chaos! Probably end up with 50+ war declarations if there was enough evil type AIs...

Thanks Sullla for the work done.
Can't wait for the next round...

PS I think your formula for average score for game 3 is missing the first 10 entries and is therefore almost 1pt too low.
(you should hard block with $5 the first line in the formula)

Sullla said before the game that barbs might prove an issue for Gandhi.
Wondering whether it turned out to be the opposite: barbs just might be the very reason he actually built quite a respectable force in the early game...
