[SPOILERS] Slaying Monsters

Fenn captured Triceratops. He has a stack of 16 or so injured units that I could have wiped out.
However, they are his crappiest units. Wiping out that stack would let all his good units counter attack me next turn.
He has a healthy stack of better promoted Cho-Ko-Nu's inside Triceratops, and a Knight stack further back in his territory.

I let Mardoc know that I'm on his side. My stack is in range of Triceratops. Will Fenn fortify there to heal up?

The thread title was a prophecy all along. This is pretty much how it went.

Why do catapults withdraw from combat? That is a mystery to me, but I like it.

Fenn still has a Knight stack. It's on the wheat tile next to Velociraptor. 17 Knights, so it's no joke.

Mardoc has a chance to reinforce Triceratops before Fenn plays. Not sure if it's worth it. I kept my stack 1 tile NE of it, where I attacked from.

Ah right, I guess they withdraw because catapults can't kill units in BTS. All these vanilla rules are ingrained in my brain even though it has been years.

Fenn is teching Rifling. Probably doesn't have the money for it right now, but he'll get it soon enough. That means I should push against him while I can, even though I kinda want to be building Observatories and teching to get Cavalry units out.

Had to retreat. Can't trust Mardoc considering everything that has gone down this game. If my stack stayed where it was, he could have declared war and attacked it with his full stack.
Fenn also moved his Cat and Knight stacks. I wouldn't think he'd abandon defense just to flank me somewhere else, but you never know.

Mardoc moved against Fenn, Fenn won.

I need to take this chance so I'm flanking him at Yaws.
- Forested hills all the way to the city.
- Keeps his units moving, not healing.
- Removes fortify bonuses that Velociraptor units would have.
- City is on flat ground.
- If Mardoc doesn't retreat, Fenn will need to split his defenders.

Aw he cut the forest.

I would probably sue for peace if I was still in the running. But it is only a matter of time until Wetbandit and/or Dreylin come visit our continent, so it doesn't matter if I lose this war.
I wasn't really ready for this, but I had to defend Mardoc. Well, I wanted to. Let's see what happens next turn.

Forgot to take a screenshot of what he attacked with before my turn. He threw his collateral at me at least, might have been a few Knights in there too? I think I won all those battles.
Once the actual fight began, I lost way too many battles that I had the odds on. But in the end my stack was fatter. Here's what was left after the massacre:
