My job search ramped up (and then I got one and had to juggle "wrapping up old job" and "doing logistics for moving 400 miles away") and I didn't have a lot of time for planning out my game, and then I looked around and realized I'd under-expanded, plain and simple, and was going to fall behind in production and tech. I meant to address this with a chained-golden-age cav attack on you, but then Dreylin attacked me, I had to divert my forces, and I lost my window. I still ended up using those cav to try to make something happen against you (and did take and keep a city from gingereagle until Dreylin's later offensives), but it was a long shot and didn't work.
Between the B run and this, it's obvious that figuring out when someone has a strategic position that lets them attack me for low cost and responding appropriately is not something I'm good at, and given that my interest in Civ 4 has waned over the last, holy crap, year and a half that this PBEM tournament has been going, it's unlikely to be something I move to address.
