Eh, I don't think anything was meant or intended by trait selection. I think they just wanted to put in a bunch of leaders with the new trait, and a bunch more asian leaders due to them being underrepresented, and as such the categories overlapped because they both happened at the same time. Simply a coincidence.

But of course sabotage is also high likely. I can't remember what turn Charlemagne sent his spaceship. We should check the events log. I can't remember him sending, video was laggy (bad connection).
