Yeah, mack is right. I checked the xml; whether intentional or not, monks can upgrade to any priest except Ritualists.

I followed the plan of slavery and savants. It's turn 350, and we just finished our third Savant. Now might be a good time to revolt to AV and upgrade to Ritualists (at 125 gold each, ouch). I've killed ~12 Alliance units, but they won't even consider peace (and almost certainly won't if we switch to AV).

Notes:

The Marksmen from the Hall of Mirrors are illusionary, and can't be hasted, can't kill units, but heal fully after winning a combat on defense, so they make great defenders.

The Angels of Death apparently have a Marksman promotion, and killed an adept in Riylod. The last couple turns, they've been killing demonic scouts generated by tigers attacking out of the city, but we're running low on those. Watch out that they don't kill our Ritualists. You can spot them with an AoE spell, like Slow or Ring of Fire, when you see a marker on an apparently empty tile.

Thessa and Cardith both declared war on Arturus at the start of this turn.

Both of our equipable weapons are in Riylod. You can pick up and reuse a weapon as long as the unit holding it dies (included being deleted after winning), so they work great for tigers except when they're attacking a Subdue Animal unit.

The bad guys are pillaging around Riylod. We could also make some cash by pillaging if needed.

Here are our Savants:

Did I kill this game?

I can play a set, if Shallow_thought isn't interested anymore or too busy

I just didn't have much to add. Happy to keep doing it - though I will probably take longer with sets as work is heating up.

I'm certainly eager to keep playing; perhaps Shallow isn't aware he's up?

Aargh. Sorry. Will either pick up later today or post asking for a skip - more likley the former.

Got it (belatedly)!.

Yeah, I think I'll be going Veil for collateral. Conquest perhaps to push out Ritualists / more troops while we're in that. I'm not sure whether to stay in Slavery or shift to Military State to try to save some cash.

For tech, I'd love to push to Fanaticism for Corlindale and Eidolons, but we'd need an economy for that. If we can ever get rid of Basium, we can look at it, I suppose.

I've never used the Hall of Mirrors, but it seems to be doing us great service at Slane. A lookup suggests it will generate a new unit mirroring the strongest enemy unit within 1t at start of each turn; the unit will live for 3t; the unit is an illusion and can't actually kill. Is that all still true in EitB?

Due to a bug, mirrored units don't die after 3 turns. Otherwise, what you said is accurate.

Thanks. I might have been a little more careful with them if I'd known twirl ! Still, it's been pretty much 1-1 with other tier-4 units so far ... hammer .
