I'm reading regularly and I do appreciate your updates.


But as a global Lurker I can't really comment on the state of your empire.

Bacchus has COMPLETELY stopped reporting for days now, though he is still playing his turns with regularity. He also doesn't seem to be trying for the second half of the turn timer - seems happy to finish turn before me each day. Not sure what that all of that means, but it could be different things

a) He is furiously planning an offensive and is prepared to have first half of the turn timer - the lack of reporting is due to not wishing to risk lurker spoilers

b) He is furiously planning an offensive, and is just being lazy with reporting

c) He is not planning an offensive at all, and is just being lazy with reporting

d) He is losing interest in the game due to his bleak future prospects

If I was a betting man, I'd say it was a mix of (b) and (d). He is almost certainly planning to attack me, but perhaps is losing interest in reporting due to his poor situation. I know I lost interest for a long while after plako razed my city. That didn't turn out to be too bad in the long run, but I know the feeling.

My military for the expected upcoming conflict with Bacchus

There's a few more spears and chariots to be added to this, but mostly this is where it's at.




Most of these units are available for the jungle theater. I have five axes, three spears, and four archers on the plako border, with the warriors in the backlines. The rest of the units, including the ten remaining spears, are all in the north, in the jungle. In the next five turns, three more spears will complete and head there, and I have pre-built spears in all of my cities close to the action, so I will be able to whip at least two more if the fight starts in earnest.

I expect Bacchus will be able to field 15+ numidians and probably whatever leftover chariots he has from earlier in the game, so really, all I need is spears. If he comes with a mountain of axes, of course, I'll be in trouble, but why would you go on the offensive with 1movers when you have a strong 2move unique unit? On top of that, as I said - he has to keep some army to defend his other two borders, at least one of which is militarised. If he wants to keep units, it'd be silly to defend with 2movers, 1movers do a better job of defense, so I expect I'll see mostly just his 2movers.

If I can get Construction beforehand (eta one more turn of accumulating gold, then two turns of research) I might actually whip a couple of elephants - those would be very handy in a conflict like this.

I have no real aspirations to win, but I have set myself a goal, and that goal is to not be the first one to be eliminated with a secondary goal of surviving for at least twenty turns after plako declares on me before folding under the onslaught.

Put your mind at ease. As is sometimes the case, the lurkers (me included) are talking/arguing about something not related to the game we are supposedly lurking (this one). I don't necessarily know what is going on elsewhere, but this is a case of lurkers being lurkers. Read nothing into this particular outburst. I make no claims about future post spikes.
