[Spoilers] Finding OH: wetbandit and ipecac encounter some sharks

Two turns one day!

We are above average crop. I do not understand this game.

We met dcodea on the other side of OT4E. He can whack our scout if he really wanted to. Let's hope he doesn't.

To that end Stardoor and OT4E haven't met each other and that's good. Surely OT4E realizes that we have a neighbor to our right, but it is Good that he doesn't realize that we have active culture pressure from his city on our capital's 3rd ring.

We have 11 hammers of OF in the cap with awkward places to put it. Worker seems wrong since we just finished the granary. Also plan is to grab the cow from newly renamed GREG NORMAN to make it grow in 3 turns. Greg Norman will start a worker at size 4 (or a settler) and plan to whip.

To that end, I changed our city names to people who have Shark as a nickname. Except for the capital.

More XP for the archer, but possible consideration to start a road on the wheat next turn. The fish is hooked next turn so it would be awful to finish the farm and the warrior moves to the forested hill to fork the city and the wheat tile.

We're dead.

Meh. The archer on the copper killed two chariots. He has one chariot there, an axe and chariot NE of that, and two chariots forking the capital and the 2nd city.

We saw the buildup, but didn't realize he had horses connected until too late. So those 60 hammers into granaries theoretically could have been spears. And then we just play a game where we are slowly ground down while he chokes us.

I didn't take a picture of OT4E's other side, but his neighbor up there isn't bordering him at all.

It's not to say it's the map's fault, but it certainly didn't help.

Left to do this turn is to whip the cities, which he will certainly take this turn since he is 2nd.

So the lesson is we shoulda researched AH after BW...except it doesn't matter because our horses were miles away (comparatively) anyway.

I have no idea if dcodea, if he is, in fact, OT4e's northern neighbor, went "north" like Stardoor went "west," but it frustrates me that we were squeezed from the first settle. Sure, we settled our 2nd city just as many tiles away from OT4e, but we don't have a neighbor on the other side to worry about.

I was telling ipecac over chat earlier that I don't regret the granary builds and general econ builds earlier. We were behind OT4E as it was, due to his traits, stonehenge, and early choke. We chose to leverage our economic trait to get granaries up, as opposed to any military, really, and he had easy access to horses. Is that too naive to think we could skate by with a farmer's gambit with a known aggressive dueler? Possibly. How were we to catch up and have a chance to win the game?

We believed from our scouting and the fact that our other neighbor settled 4 tiles from our capital on T25ish that OT4E likely had a close neighbor on his other side that could distract him. I wonder if he settled on horses deliberately or if it was serendipitous.

It would be much more fun to play out the string if there was metal on the outer donut ring. We are stuck with archers defending the flatland city.

This is a  post. The new goal is to survive to CKNs.

I dunno what much else you could have done. Skipping Granaries just means OT4E stays ahead and kills you later, or StarDoor plants more cities in your face. The 2nd city was much closer to you than OT4E than yourself given the diagonal distance + lake blocking the way. If somebody's dead-set on rushing you, and it looks like he was with planting on Horse and building all those units, I don't think planting the city elsewhere would have made much difference.

Was the OT4E Worker on that hill visible T57? That would have been instantly suspicious, to me.

Seriously, WTF is this map

Last gasp:

He has a decent chance of taking the city. I didn't sim it out, but I imagine he would attack with a chariot first to weaken the CG2 full fortify bonus archer. The axe may have odds on the 2nd archer. I deleted our last worker in anticipation that he may take the city.

Yep. I should have known better.

I wasn't paying attention either. Oh well..

If we're really fortunate we might end up third from the bottom...which would actually be an improvment in comparison to my previous PB outings.
