spellman Wrote:See, that's the funny thing. I keep getting teams that undervalue Dragon and wards so I typically end up doing them. It's odd. Don't people realize the HUGE global gold from Dragon?

No, of course they don't. They think "oh, 190g, is that all? I get more than that for a champion kill!"

Anyone play Twisted Treeline? I am thinking of getting into it but I can't really find any tips or guides. I'm slightly worried about wandering in and looking an idiot because I don't know the basics like which lane is solo or whether jungling is standard etc.

I'm just going to throw whatever comes to my mind on this map.

1: Singed is OP
2: Mundo probably isn't OP anymore, though, but still strong
3: Jungling is weird as hell and doesn't follow any sort of set-up route, especially since there's only one red buff and two random (black and green) buffs, as well as the dragon buff. Seriously, even I have no idea how to jungle on this map, but it seems to be no different than "killing creeps and showing up for ganks". You do have to pay attention to the fact that there is no blue buff anymore, and spamming mana intensive skills will have you go back to base often. On the other hand, there aren't that many creep camps to farm and the emphasis of the game is on ganking.
4: Tanky DPS rock the map. Whatever is bulky and deals in-your-face damage will be top tier. There are exceptions like Ezreal, Nidalee, Annie or Kennen who fare well on this map because they can deal large ranged damage and kite the tanky DPS types well.
5: Farming isn't as important, dynamic ganking is, and you will see players grind teeth over objectives like the red buff and the dragon, because controlling those buffs really decides the outcome of the game
6: Cull hates this map because he sucks at it and always trolls me when we play it
7: Traditionally the top lane is solo.
8: Certain champs who suck/are otherwise subpar on Summoner's Rift (Mundo, Tryndamere, Pantheon, Heimerdinger) suddenly become really strong on Twisted Treeline. Some already good champions find a few niche options on 3v3, such as Blitzcrank, Poppy, Fiddlesticks and Mordekaiser.
9: If you have a dash, blink or whatever to pass walls, you'll be happy. There is a lot of walls.
10: Smite is good even if you don't run a jungler because of the importance of securing buffs. Other than that, Flash, Exhaust, Ghost and Ignite all remain very useful while Teleport becomes useless.
11: Not sure if Nunu is still strong on this map after the nerfs, but he was noted for jungle control and the snowballs. This also notes that some champions who get easily shut down on Summoner's Rift because they face 5 people (which means more people that can counter them), have a much easier time on Twisted Treeline. Master Yi and Tryndamere have to face less crowd control effects and their squishiness isn't as apparent, and Nunu can build a bit more AP, for example.
12: Globals don't have that huge of an impact, but characters with them are still decent. Shen is decent, Pantheon's mandrop is stronger because now he is less prone to be bursted down when built full damage, Nocturne's ult technically isn't a global but Twisted Treeline's small size makes it even better. Twisted Fate, however, sucks because he has to farm up for effectiveness, he's slow, squishy and has a low range.
13: Late game heroes who rely on lots of farmed up items aren't too good. Tryndamere (and maybe Jax) is an exception, but Ashe, Veigar or Sivir will blow.
14: Always ward the dragon and the red buff at the very least.
15: Win by early ganking, early pushing, and snowballing with the first blood gold.
EDIT: 16: Gold per 10 items aren't as good because the game is usually decided before they pay off.

Thanks, lots of nice tips there smile

Why is Singed so powerful? I always feel a bit vulnerable at low levels when I play him. Is it because most of your opponents will be melee?

Do you know why top is solo? I would have thought it would have been the other way round with all the buffs in the top of the map.

Looks like I have a lot of the stronger champs you suggested, nice start. Seems like lane bullies and strong 1vs1 champions are what I should be looking at, so maybe Udyr and Warwick as well for a bit of easy jungling in on the side?

I'm thinking a Flash/Exhaust Nidalee or Flash/Smite Singed to start. Oh god I have to learn what walls you can pounce through again!

It's a good thing they're trying to fix Yorick. Apparently there was alot of Tribunal cases last week in which the player got reported for playing Yorick.

Farming with Singed is ridiculously easy thanks to Poison Trail. You can overextend for farming or pushing and not be punished much since with Ghost and your ult you can escape three man ganks with ease. Once farmed/fed and completed your items, you are absolutely unkillable by a meager force of three people. You can overextend and they won't be able to stop you. Most of your items (Rylai's for example) will boost your tankiness and your damage output, so they can't exactly ignore you.
Sure, early on Singed is a bit fragile and can have a hard time CSing, but those woes are solved the moment he gets his ultimate.
Also, spam Shift + 4 when you play him for maximum effect.

Assuming there's no jungler, then the top lane is... well, that's actually a good question. I wrote that because that's what I thought the tradition is since I don't play *that* much Twisted Treeline, and all the higher ELO sources like streams run a jungler/roamer, so both lanes are solo. I suppose that top is less gankable and that two bottom laners have an easier time reaching the red lizard, control over which is pivotal to success.

Yes, Warwick will do well and so will Udyr. They pass the test for tankiness, sustain, damage and CC, all important on 3v3.

I think Ghost/Flash on Nidalee is standard but you might as well run Flash/Exhaust on TT. I can't imagine a Singed without Ghost, though, but on the other hand I play him without any Movement Speed runes or even masteries.

I hadn't thought of it that way, that is glorious.

Yeah I would normally run Ghost/flash on Nid on Summoners Rift but Exhaust feels like it would be really strong when there are only 3 enemies. I was thinking the same thing with Flash on Singed but maybe I should stick to the classic.

I will see if I can get a game in tonight, thanks for all the advice.

Enoch, do you play exclusively EU? If so, you should come and join us on the US server -- the ping isn't *too* bad, and it's good fun smile
