So most folks will only have contact of any significance with 3-5 others for a large chunk of the game. Besides, as has been mentioned, very little (to nothing) posted in diplo will be of much importance anyway. 
That brings up an interesting point. Teching may be slower due to not meeting everyone.

It's a bonus of [civs met with tech] / [total civs] * 30%, and it's additive with the pre-req bonus.

Should we consider opening a second public thread for actual diplo (messages adressed to one specific team), keeping this as the trashtalking (messages adressed to any number of teams) thread? With this many players, I think it will be all but impossible to keep up with anything of any importance once we get rolling. I think what limited diplomacy we have should be as accessible to all as possible.
