This is actually true, I used to play my SP games with a tall empire in a very pacifist way. Still, in the early game it's definitely better
Edit : GJ made a good comparison for how good vasssalage was compared to bureau. With a bad cap and reasonable army it was equal. Here the cap is pretty good and the army ridiculous.

I wouldn't debate that bureau is better than vassalage with as little cities as we've got, my point is rather the opportunity cost of 1100b you need for CoL/CS, which apart from bureau we don't need in the foreseeable future. Feudalism , otoh , sets us up very well in the guilds race, and gets us HR, which is good as we've decided to ignore the pyramids. I would still take saailing,currency,construction before moving on to guilds after oracling feudalism, because I'm fearsome.
But as stated bureaucracy is awesome, and getting 740b out of the oracle is really cool...
Another punt against feudalism is that it's 3 civics, and we really really don't want 2 turns off anarchy, so if we really wanted serfdom we would either have to save vassalage for a GA to come, or get a really fast GP, stating from this turn. The later goes against my previous ¡more settlers! Statement
Of course, losing the oracle now because someone builds it while we are teching CoL or monarchy would be super painful. We depend on everybody believing that with us getting Buddhism we've already won that race. But if somebody had a good plan and prechops ready, he could still go for it.

Teching CoL only delays oracle by like 3t, just time it to finish the turn after CoL

You know what let's make this game insane. Being fin means the eco won't drop dead as soon as the others'. We'll need archery for LBs then, and after that sailing currency maybe construction and calendar, MC IW machinery HBR guilds. I don't think we should go into serfdom with the first revolt it's not worth another turn of anarchy and we can still whip lots of stuff

Ok I'm not playing before 5h or so from now, so you still got time to reconsider, but I would set research to monarchy then if I don't here an objection. (Also, gotta save gold for at least 1t). With monarch tech being the constraint, I'll see if I can city in a settler or worker from Thales. The wonder should finish the very same turn as the tech, right?
Reg your research plan, I would fit in MC earlier, because we def want the big shiny guy

I think finishing the wonder on the same turn as the tech would work.
Calendar and construction can come at any time.

This is correct. The Tech finishes at EoT, then the pop-up for choosing the free tech triggers at the start of the next turn.

ok, I got another worker out of Thales. 6 for 4 cities now. He may be needed for another chop to get the Oracle in time. Offered peace to Grimace and maps to Sian. Also set EP on Grimace. Pyth is 4turning the next settler, then can grow to happy cap on another Phalanx, then next settler. Supported by chops. What I'm not happy with is that I've had little opportunity to improve Archimedes, which is working 2 bare FP now and the gold mine (which got connected this turn). Cottages needed urgently!

Playing this very defensively. The spreadsheet says that with terrain bonus, we won't get odds attacking his vulture, even with the c1 promoted one. So I decided to just not let him get onto tiles where he can be annoying. We can block him off from getting into our first ring. When we want to improve the gems we'll have to see if we need to sacrifice a Phalanx.
Also offered peace again of course.
Archimedes' warrior went scouting SE (city guarded by a Phalanx, +1 available for whipping if need be)
