Yes, but the big difference is that usually you have teams in a professional league when the record is reset. I wouldn't argue on resetting everything if only the pro players played among themselves in a set pool.
In a certain way Tennis has seasons as well (Grand Slam/ATP), yet nobody has come up with the idea that Djokovic or Nadal should be placed at the same level as number 862 of the ranking when it comes to evaluating players in terms of qualification.
I am glad Riot has put in some floor, I don't know who gains something when the pros from Dreamhack have to play noobs for two months until they are back at their 2000+ rating.

Just got fully itemised on Singed for the first time, so funny. Wandering in to three enemies, killing a squishy then running away safely will never get old.
Final build was: Merc Treads, Rod of Ages, Rylai's, Force of Nature, Frozen Heart, Banshee's
That feels like what I should be aiming for as their damage output was pretty balanced, any suggestions for improving it? I debated a bit between Randuin's and Frozen heart.

It's somewhat hard to understand why you would want to reset anything at all. In chess (for which the Elo system was invented) there is no reset either.
The people on top have earned their position. If other people want to climb up there they need to get their act together and start to play on that level. There is a hidden ELO in normal games. Riot used to periodically release a list of the top-ranked players. Bigfatjiji was #1 at the start of Season 1, which isn't too surprising.

Some of the itemisation in that game makes my head hurt! Zero tenacity is perhaps the thing that jumps out the most.
Also if you have two copies of LOL on your computer to play on Europe and North America the new region switcher seems to work fine if you want to free up some disk space.
