Okay, so I had a long chat with Ruff today. It started as a PBEM2 chat but moved to PB3 pretty quickly. First off, for C&D department, his Scout has met an untimely demise. Second, we slowly exchanged info about our capital. Ruff has 7 forests, Corn, Sheep, and Jungle Silver. He has a river and a balance of flatland/hill and plains/grassland tiles. He said he has a pretty good theory on the map (above and beyond that the starts seemed balanced). I got the feeling he wanted to tell me, but wasn't quite sure he should. He definitely feels the map was setup to encourage early combat though.
Now, the really interesting thing to me was he brought up (in the context of our PBEM discussion) his alliance with Dreylin in PBEM1. I got the very strong impression he wanted to build something similar in this game, bilateral or multi-lateral even. I got the very, very, very strong impression he wanted to do it specifically with us. I think we should sound him out on this. If you haven't followed PBEM1, it was a full partnership and enabled some pretty powerful activities. We would be insane not to pursue something like this ![bang bang](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/bang.gif) .
Sunrise, I hope I am not stepping on your toes too much here, certainly any follow up should come from you.

Excellent work darrell!
Definitely not stepping on toes - the idea behind separating things is that we still all should take part in each area, but just so that there is ONE person who is kind of "in charge"
I think we would be foolish to limit ourselves to only playing "part" of the game (not to mention it wouldn't be as fun)
Definitely agree that we should proceed talks with ruff down the line that darrell started us

I get the feeling sooooo (our micro guy) is more of a play be feel dude, so I'm not sure we'll need a sandbox. I don't mind making one for the capital though if its needed.
Darrell
I think the problem with sandboxes is that they take a while to set up and they can be useful, but sometimes it's hard to evaluate the positions you get at the end. How can you compare more food in the box vs more hammers vs earlier worker vs earlier scout etc?
The only thing we can do with our worker until BW is to mine the two hills, so that is what he should do ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) . No need for a sandbox for that.
I'm fine with going for the second worker plan.
I'm still for agriculture after BW.
Ruff would make a decent ally, though it's probably best that I don't personally negotiate with him

Funny enough, I think he's worried about residual ill will on your part. He assured me he holds none, and that he's happy to work with you in this game.

Ruff and Dreylin aren't the only partners-to-the-point-of-being-shortsighted in a RB multiplayer game ya' know
I'm fine with such an arangement with Ruff, especially on the personal side. Too bad his civ/leader combo is kind of terrible, but it will be interesting being on the tech side of a tech/gold arrangement.
@Darrell and sooooo - Here's a non-sandbox question:
I favor going hunting after BW because I don't want to put hammers into a warrior because they're stupid. However do we gain more in hammers (via pop) from getting the rice hooked up than we loose in building a warrior versus an archer (call it 10 hammers wasted)?

But in 3 turns (T17), we will be done with our mine and ready for another assignment. BW comes in on T18.
Do we spend 3 turns we could be chopping mining that 2nd hill that we won't work for awhile?
Seems like we want to chop ASAP after BW comes in.
I think we should spend T17 moving to the PFH and T18-20 chopping it.

T14 played btw and Exploit and Krill both researched techs, both of which look to be Animal Husbandry.
Hopefully Krill and his War Chariots aren't near us!!

I think we would definiltey gain more Hammers via pop by hooking the Rice up. We'll grow waaaaay faster, and be working Mines much earlier this way. I like Agr -> Hun -> AH. Although if we have Copper in easy reach do you still want Archers?
Warriors will eventually be useful for MP duty at least ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) .

This kind of claim sounds like it needs some evidence.
