Message from WarriorKnight:
Quote:Hi Irgy
Firstly I would like you to keep this message confidential. I don't usually request confidentiality, but I would be rather unhappy if this message was shared with anyone else.
As you may have heard from the Bannor, nyktorion is planning to declare war on Mr. Yellow shortly. Because of this, it's very unlikely that you and the Bannor will be connected by a trade route in the near future, hence you won't be able to lend him copper. I learned of nyktorion's intentions when I asked him about coordinating a road connection to connect the two of you, when he confidentially told me that he wanted to keep the two of you unconnected until he declared on the Bannor.
Let me start by saying I'm extremely sorry about misleading you into thinking that you would be able to supply copper to Mr. Y. I would have informed you as soon as possible but nyktorion requested that I keep this information confidential (I'm only telling you now since the Bannor seems to have caught onto nyktorion's hostile intentions) and since nyktorion's assistance was required to help connect you to the Bannor, there was nothing I could do about it.
I value our current relations very highly (in fact, your my longest and best friend) and we've made several deals which have and will benefit both of us. I have no intentions to do anything to threaten that relationship. I just hope you'll understand that I had unintentionally backed myself into a corner and had no way to telling you this earlier that didn't involve breaking confidentiality.
Regards,
WarriorKnight

Think I forgot to mention that the lair popping last turn netted us a Healing Salve. One of the Adepts is carrying it for the moment, it can be passed on to anything else though.
Kundlevind (new city NE of capital) was founded last turn. Dyes have been connected there, so empire-wide happiness is up. Ashen Veil is also adding 2 happiness to every city that it's in - which has expanded to Kundlevind this turn. (I used the Savant to spread it to the capital.)
Steinvik is up to size 5. Capital is closing in on size 11. Tongurstad will begin a Settler once it reaches its optimal size of 9 in a couple of turns. (Desert is being turned to plains there one tile at a time.)
Main decision to make is at Grottiburg: what do we build there next? Logical choices are Adept (2 turns), Rosier the Fallen (5-6 turns), or Settler (7 turns).
Masonry finished, onto Construction.

Lots of diplomacy this turn.
From Nyktorion, titled "We Have A Trade Connection":
Quote:Hi Lord Parkin,
now that I am at war with Mr. Yellow, I have completed my tarding connection to WarriorKnight, and thus also the connection between us two. So, if there's something concrete you's like us to trade with, just let me know.
As I immediately spotted each of us two having exactly one surplus happiness resource, I requested the respective trade (gold for silk) ingame. Only afterwards, I realised that you already had some silk of your own, so please disregard that trading request.
On another note, what do think about an open borders agreement between us the two of us? This would certainly benefit trade for both.
best regards,
Nyktorion
Interesting based on what WK just sent us earlier. It seems he hasn't been entirely honest with us (although neither has WarriorKnight). I wonder if maybe those two are closer than they're letting on.

From Thoth:
Quote:Hi!
I would appreciate it if you didn't move your scouting warrior any further West. Your passage is blocked by my borders so your progress would be halted next turn regardless. I have some somewhat sensitive tile improvements right on my borders and I wouldn't want you to fall prey to temptation.
The Malakim Institute of Geology reports that there is a high degree of tectonic instability in the area and tsunamis have been know to occur.
Thoth.
Seems vaguely threatening, and I dislike being told what to do with units in neutral territory, but I guess there's no reason not to agree while we can't sign Open Borders anyway. Incidentally, our Warrior moving down the coast spotted a 2-move Cultist of his in the water with promotions available.

I'm letting you know I've met the Lanun now, they have a workboat sailing along the southern coastline (who's currently near the Tomb of Succelus of whatever the Unique feature that gives Life mana is called). So assuming there's no sea monsters that block the path the two of you should be in contact shortly. If you have any units near there it might be helpful to send them to the coast to speed up the contact but I'll leave that decision to you.

WarriorKnight
Seems we'll meet Mardoc even if Thoth doesn't let us through, so that's good at least.

I'll pass on the message to Irgy when he gets back. I haven't kept up with much of the diplomacy in this game, so I'll leave it to Irgy to respond to this. Thanks for being honest though, it's appreciated.

Quote:Hi WarriorKnight,
Thanks for the info. Good to know we'll be able to make contact with the Lanun in the near future. I'll look at getting some units out to the coast, although I'm sure he'll run into our borders soon enough anyway.
Cheers,
Lord Parkin

No problem, I've turned around the Warrior and will head away from your borders. Perhaps once Open Borders are available we could reconsider the situation.
Hope your Cultist is enjoying his stroll along the coast. That's a neat trick... our Warrior seems to be a bit envious.
Cheers,
Lord Parkin

Quote:Hi Nyktorion,
It's great to finally have a trade connection with you. No worries about the Silk error, by the way.
Opening our borders to one another seems like a perfectly sensible and logical idea, and I'm sure we'd be happy to agree to that. However, for the moment it seems neither of us has the technology necessary to open them, so we'll have to wait a bit. When one of us has the technology available though, I'm sure we can work out a deal there.
For the moment it doesn't seem there's much else available on the table. We may perhaps be able to make use of your spare Sheep at some point in the future, but we don't have any spare health resources to offer in return. I guess for now we'll just have to wait until we connect up more resources before we can make any other trades, unless you have any other ideas.
So yeah, it's great to have a trade route connection with you at last - I'm just sorry that we don't have more available for trade at the moment. I'm sure that'll change in the future though.
Cheers,
Lord Parkin

Holy diplo. Sorry to dump you in the middle of all that. I'll sort it out though. Happy with everything you've said so far.
I'm still all for more adepts at Grottiburg, although the need for settlers may be greater. Is Grottiburg still able to grow at the moment? Maybe it's worth a settler now, then adepts while it's growing again thanks to Construction (for more farms) and later Sanitation (for better farms). What's the capital building at the moment?
Back tomorrow, but feel free to play a turn that shows up tonight (not sure where it's at currently).

Sent a message to WarriorKnight. It's all just philosophising over confidentiality, no real content.
Quote:[COLOR="DarkOrchid"]Hello
I fully appreciate the moral dilemma raised by the need for confidentiality. In fact protecting confidentiality is the one thing that will cause me to lie with no compulsions - there is simply only one way to do it and that's to act exactly as if you didn't have the knowledge that you're protecting. So I'm not particularly put out by that at all, but I greatly appreciate what you've said below nonetheless.
No-one's really told me anything confidential yet anyway (or am I just saying that ?) until what you've written below. I'm not actually sure what it is you're worried about me passing on below - just that you knew about the elves plans a little earlier than you might have? I'm naturally fairly reserved with other people's information anyway. I make a point of keeping other people's secrets to myself so that people are comfortable telling me stuff in the first place. It's only my own "secrets" that I'm a little too loose with at times
