RBP7 - SPOILERS - Genghis Khan of Egypt

I think you'll get beaten to your chosen city spot by one turn.
I have to run.

There is a Missionary in Hard Rock.

I think you need to know where the seafood is to have an optimal settling spot. Failing that, the city lacks food and will suck, so settle based on what's most defensible (i.e. blue dot). Its hard to argue with Mathematics next.

No, he said he had a missionary on the way towards the Rome border. Which must be the free one, since he couldn't have a monastery or Org Rel to produce one.

Correct. Founded in Golden Nugget, free auto-spread to Luxor, missionary included with the later religious being used in the Rome border city assuming it gets planted.

Should I take this shot? Is there any way of knowing in advance if the warrior will pillage versus attack a unit in range versus advance on the city?

If I attack and lose I won't lose a city, but either way I'd like to keep the gems tile hooked and if possible able to be worked this turn.

I'm pretty sure this is known but I don't know it. Paging Dr. T-Hawk! lol

Not definitively. I believe the logic is that he'll first decide if he wants to attack your unit. If not, he'll pillage. My gut tells me that given the combat odds he's more likely to attack then pillage... barb warriors live for 30% battles. lol

Edit: To clarify- the decision to attack or not is a random roll based on the attack odds. It's never a sure thing either way. Barbarians have a high "recklessness" that makes them attack happy even at somewhat poor odds, but it still matters.

Ok, here's a follow up then: if he attacks and dies, does my gems tile get used or not? In other words, does the barb turn happen before or after food, hammers, and beakers are applied?

If there is a barb standing on the tile when *you* end turn, you do not get to work it even if the barb wanders elsewhere/suicides on your unit during the barb's turn.

If a barb wanders onto the tile *after* you have ended turn, you already got to use the tile and so got the benefit from last turn.

In sequential/PBEM games the barbs go last in turn order, and I assume it works similarly in a simultaneous game (ie the barbs move after the turn rolls).

IMO and YMMV ect.
