anyone up for calling it?

IMO the map did so the one sitting futhest away from Scooter was a natural winner since those next to him (given that he was Egypt, and probably the strongest player in the group) was forced to clamp down on him first, while the one futhest away was able to grab both(?) Oasis's which is so much stronger than whatever else you're able to get on this map ... the two oasis spots are way to strong (both in terms of output and defensibility) held up against what's able to get in the extremely cramped starting area with no logical expansion points forcing everyone to prepare for early warring, which by logic would be turned against Egypt played by the probably strongest player in the game.

congratulations to Luddite/Pindicator for lucking out on relative placement and not screwing it up.

(this is also a reason why i'm starting to question the wisdom in placing everyone in one line, instead of some way to make everyone able to attack everyone (almust) just as easily)

I'll save my comments on the map for game end, but if everyone else wants to call it I'm fine with that.

I'm good with calling it, I have been for a long while. No pressure AT though - if you want to continue, I'll happily keep playing.

However I'm not ok with this. This is ridiculous. This is really poor sportsmanship, and not only that, it's just not accurate.

I was looking forward to seeing what conqs could do on a battlefield. But yeah, this seems like a good time to call it off, especially if you're feeling frustrated.

Not saying Luddite played bad ... saying that the map had more to do with it than anything ... both me and AT had to focus on copper (which was placed where it was for all intends and purpuses impossible to pillage), and keep our attendion on you, while Luddite could (not sure if he did, but the lack of spears talks for it) ignore copper for quite a while focusing on getting up the oasis cities which is a hell to attack unless prehaps if you built on the 'wrong' side, due to the natural hill to settle on and being 'railroaded' onto a tile without protection unless you want to waste turns getting to your attacking spot.

Sure he made a gambit and got away with it, but from there to saying that the mapsetup had nothing to do with it is a long way.

Basic idea for the map was fine (somewhat cramped and 'meh' middleland) but the execution wasn't anywhere near what was sought, due to being too cramped and the middleland being either useless (desert, desert, desert ... uhh nonFP desert river) or IMBA (3h Hill with 4 Plain Oasis's (huh?) and 2 lake fishs) ... if much of the desert had instead been Plains with no/little bad food (rice, cows, sheep), and the oasises had been regular desert oasis without the hills and fish, i believe it would have been a good map

I have map complaints too, and I've documented them. But face it - Luddite played the map better than anyone else. Yes, we were unlucky that he wasn't next to me. But what's your excuse? Why did all of you go take late-game UUs on a map Mist openly told us would be cramped? Or why did you (Sian) invest enormous resources attacking the last-place guy (me) instead of Luddite and now have nothing to show for it? Luddite didn't make those kinds of mistakes. He was the only one of us who recognized the significance of the Oasis and prioritized accordingly.

Basically, yes, I'm not a huge fan of a few things about the map, though I appreciate the time and thought behind it. I think it's actually not far from being a very good one. Despite that though, Luddite still out-played the other 3 of us pretty signficantly, and it's kinda rude to imply he only beat you because Mist gave it to him, when in reality, he just played better than you. You could have punished him. Just take something other than France, geez. I don't say that to be mean, but it's just the truth. I said in my thread that this game was a wrap when Luddite had to step down. That's a very well-played game by him, and he deserves the credit for it.
