I changed my mind about one of those filler cities.

It's a perfect site.

Yeah. That would be good spot for Globe theatre. To get it up it is good idea to spare those forests for it. We could make another 3 pop whip from WR to get us settler fast and build WB insted of Courthouse in OTR. We should also chop that forest before planting the city. Might be hard to get it up and running for our coming nationhood period, but it could also be used for some heavy whipping too while waiting for the later drafting eras.

Yeah, it'll take a while longer to set up, but we should get that city started ASAP.

The other somewhat crazy idea I had was to build the globe in OTR. It could draft every other turn at a very large size. But I think this will be better; that was more of a backup plan in case we couldn't find any other alternatives.

Shame about the great spy. I guess I favor saving him to help initiate a third golden age. Hoping the next four will all be scientists and have better uses.

It seems to me we're not gonna get new NAPs easily. This means we really need to consider how to best mobilize our nation. I'm just collecting my thoughts about this. Most of the things presented here are already said earlier.

Right now I'm considering if something like this would make sense:
* Liberate Military Tradition. Speed it up via mass wealth builds everywhere where we don't urgently need something (i.e. start next turn all Forge builds except DeerSlayer/Caipirinha would be stopped). Tech path NAtionalism - Education - Liberalism - HBR - IW - Gunpowder - Machinery
* If we follow upper tech path, consider civic switch timings compared to Gunpowder timing. If we can get it on T136 we should probably do OR/slavery change on T131 and convert to Nationhood(+Theocracy?) on T136
* Hire Merchants in HN, WIFOM and OTR to hopefully land Merchant/Merchants for Trade missions (Probably landing on M3:s ToA city or islnd city in case we would manage to get galley there). Getting Merchants would allow better flexibility than Scientists.
* Focus on getting Paya somewhere during OR/slavery phase

After further thinking liberating MilTra takes probably too long. We're probably close to T140 when we finish gunpowder so liberating Nationalism seems to still make most sense.

Drafted maces, cats and horse archers should be ok for defense. I agree that aiming for bigger guns will be too slow.

I think liberalism > nationalism > machinery > PP > construction > horseback riding > engineering could be a good tech path.

For Taj, we must revolt into slavery no later than T134, which is the last turn of the GA anyway. We could adopt nationalism at the same time, or we could revolt into slavery a couple of turns earlier and then nationalism five turns later.

I think adopting nationalism on T134 is my preference, if we can't extend the NAP with Gillette past T140. Then consider five turns of bureaucracy later to help with OU.

For offensive warfare, maybe try a mass upgrade from horse archers funded by a GM. Or just tech towards rifling.

On second thought, maybe guilds and doubly discounted gunpowder would be better than engineering.

Ok, so after actually looking at the tech tree I'm really liking the idea of going for gunpowder and military tradition (and construction and horseback riding and iron working) as our military techs.

Miltrad is only slightly more expensive than nationalism though (2860 vs. 2574) so we should definitely lib nationalism. If we want to field cuirassiers in any significant numbers we'd better get some forges down first, anyway. (And stables too, perhaps.)

The nice thing is we can skip all of monarchy, feudalism, machinery, and guilds. That's 3861 beakers that we won't have to research until we set our sights on banking and economics. Also, by not researching machinery, we can use scientists to bulb astronomy if we want to. Or, we can get machinery and printing press and then bulb astronomy. (Chemistry requires engineering so it won't get in the way.)

In other words, I think we should get gunpowder right after liberalism > nationalism, so we can start drafting muskets. Then get construction, horseback riding, iron working, and military tradition. If tensions are lowered, we can detour for machinery and printing press.

Another option, if we think getting gunpowder will be too slow, is to get machinery first, so we can start drafting maces, and then gunpowder at some later point. But I have a feeling this will end up delaying gunpowder quite significantly. It would let us bulb most of printing press, though...

Just to keep them handy, here are those great scientist bulb preferences again.

We need Machinery to bulb Astronomy (Optics needs it). Good thing is that it seems like we can continue towards Liberalism utilising old plan (including keeping Scientist) so we don't need to make desicion just now. MilTra is pretty epensive tech and delaying Astronomy after might not be feasible.
