Turn 240

So the only Civ action I got this evening was staring at this offer from Mackoti for about two hours. Which is lucky because I didn't know whether to accept. Any thoughts?

Turn 240 cont.

Following on from the offer of the defensive pact for 60 gold Mack demanded 450 gold and then offered oil for 50 gpt. We're at least 7 turns from having a use for oil, so I turned it down. As I see it either Mack is now our friend for the next 60 turns as he fights against Plako and/or Scooter, or this is an elaborate way to get us to lower our guard. Either way we'll stay alert until turn 242, at which point I'd be happy to pay a bit for peace and for oil, but right now it doesn't make any sense.


But wait, what's this? A destroyer!


Is 450 gold a reasonable price for a destroyer? I guess so... I'll offer 400 back in an attempt to haggle. The 3 gpt is supposed to indicate that we'll buy three more at that price. Who knows if Mack will understand...


Note the number of units finishing in the next two turns - if it is a bluff we'll put up a decent (but doomed) fight...

Mack is selling us destroyers? Sweet! ... and random. I don't know if I'd haggle too much over those; he might misunderstand.

Turn 241

He didn't misunderstand! Hey, this no-diplo thing is easy! He's asking 425 each, these ones have got XP on them, so that seems pretty fair... In other news Scooter got the Statue of Liberty, I wonder what Mack will spend his Great Engineer on now?


The only issue is that he's now one tech from Tanks and this much cash could speed him to that. The upside is that if we get peace we can load all our amphibious units onto Galleons and use the destroyers to protect them from dtay as we pin units into his coastal cities... According to the combat calc each destroyer should kill about four ironclads or ten SOTL/Frigates on defense smile. Pleasingly dtay is Physics, Combustion and Artillery away from getting his own destroyers, so the only way we won't rule the waves is if someone else is selling him destroyers. But that would be sneaky. Right? Also I feel like we're missing out on Biology, Drama and Liberalism.


I miscalculated slightly - our peace with Mack lasts until eot242, not the beginning. Anyway I'm almost confident we won't get attacked now, so here's your money sir. Next turn is when we think about upgrades.

If Mack doesn't attack us and commodore does attack dtay, yes! I wouldn't fancy attacking dtay at roughly equivalent tech without help.

Interesting times!

- Have we heard anything new from Commodore?
- 425g per destroyer sounds fairly expensive, but if we actually get to use them against dtay they are well worth the money. nod
- What is your evaluation of 2metra front? Is he building ships or are we allowed to focus on dtay+mack.

PS. Try to keep those destroyers out of dtay's vision! - maybe he has not noticed them yet

- Not for a while, I was waiting to see what Mack does next turn before getting back in touch.
- Upgrading a Caravel to a Destroyer is 440 so it seemed okay - giving the cash to Mack could be dumb, but too late!
- I dunno - he's been moving ships towards us, but we've got seven turns of peace and some destroyers now...
- I've been trying to keep them out of his sight. I wanna move them to a position from which they can hit his naval stack on t0 of a war, it might be advisable to kill the caravel just in case.
