PHI / CRE is typically used when you want a whole lot of scientists, or a really early Academy. Sadly the commerce potential of the capital doesn't look that good. Would you want to aim for an Astro bulb with a lot of scientists?

You get a random GP.

Is that true? Last time I remember working on this, what happened was no GP spawned and the typeless GP points kept accumulating past the threshold until you did have points of some type. Unless CTH changed this.

Just tested this. You get a random GP. IIrc that's also what Charriu said.

here's my stab at a pick/player analysis:

Yuris: De Gaulle (CHA/IND) of Japan

Mediocre offensive pick, although I understand his motivation for going with this. Having being burned badly on an economic pick on the medieval start game, yuris clearly just wants to be able to survive whatever hogbrained SD rush happens this game and do something impactful in the midgame. No early economy traits here, he gets one extra happy and cheap forges a million years in the future once you have metal casting. Japan is okay for this kind of map, the +2xp to melees on said forge makes it easier to get to amphibious, and the unique mace isn't half bad for furnishing such assaults. I give this pick a 3/5 - I think going ORG/IND or EXP/IND or even AGG/IND would have been a much better way of making Japan shine.

Ginger: Lincoln (CHA/PHI) of Spain

Another CHA pick coming in hot. This one has better synergy with the civ - the Spanish unique castle gives extra xp to naval units, so it makes getting the all important Nav1 or Nav2 that much easier. I assume he has plans for bulbing with PHI on hand here, otherwise PRO/CHA might have made more sense to get a discount on the citadels. I assume he thinks every player will have easy access to stone. Conquistadors are a decent UU, you can use them as defenders. I give this pick a 4/5.

Superdeath: Churchill (CHA/PRO) of Native America

Oh, that's why Ginger couldn't take PRO. This pairing is honestly pretty dumb. Natives give +2xp to archery and gunpowder units... so the best you have offensively starts at muskets. The native unique axe will play zero role in this game. Only good thing about Natives here is the starting techs. I give this one a 2/5.

Scooter: Mao (EXP/PRO) of Carthage

Bog standard economy pairing. EXP and PRO both boost Cothons. This pairing has won or done well in a number of games in the past, and I expect scooter to continue to do well with it unless he's rushed. 4.5/5 for pairing score.

Bing: Pericles (CRE/PHI) of America

An economy pick that goes all in on the great people. With cheap libraries, we can spam a ton of scientists if we so desire. The question is mainly what we want to do with them. Scientists enable the infamous astronomy bulb, but going for an early chemistry for grenadiers is also a good option. The main sad thing about this pick is the limited commerce available for the capital, which is going to make an early academy not that great. Going for pyramids might be a strong option, if yuris does not get them.

I give the pick a 3.5/5.

Hmm. attempt at Pyramids it is then.

If going for pyramids, I expect our main rivals to be yuris (IND) and scooter. But scooter will probably prioritize a GLH run. Ginger may also make a go for it. We'll have to keep a lookout for easy stone.

Great Lighthouse and Colossus are banned in this setup.

Somehow I missed most of the bans despite reading the whole setup thread. No wonder no one picked FIN!

Mids will definitely be hotly contested if GLH is off the table. Tricky.

It seems we have no bonuses that would help us be the ones to get pyramids, exscept for having a good food/hammer cap?

Anyway, I guess I will read a bulbing guide at some point.
