Forum upgrade today

After upgrade, non-logged in users got switched to threaded view, which is almost unusable for people who are unfamiliar with it, which at this point is probably majority of new visitors.

Also, new posts are no longer saved for non-logged in users.

You're probably right that threaded view seems to have lost. It's a shame, as there's a lot that gets lost when you take away threading. I set the default view to linear, but people can still individually choose threaded. Hopefully that works for most people. I'm still looking for how to store read messages when you're not logged in.

Thanks. Threading can be useful when it's handled the way blog and slashdot comment sections do it, showing entire subthreads at once. But this forum software requires every post to be read separately, which makes it hard to read long threads.

PS The message status used to be updated every time I visited forums, saved per computer, but now it's updated only when I am logged in. Is there some settings to save message status in cookies regardless of login status?
