Hi, Mach. Hope you enjoy your game.
Epic48 - The Absent-Minded Professor - Info Thread

Establishing an embassy is OK. So is planting spies. It's only tech thefts that are off the table, and any player-initiated or player-altered deals. (Doesn't leave much.)
As for warmaking... use your best judgement within the posted language. It's not a scored epic, so the main thing is to have fun with it. You'll probably be too busy in your lab to spend any great amount of time on military affairs anyway. - Sirian

Nothing says spring like science research... Nice variant, hope my report writing skills are ok...
PS: How do most people keep reports? I make screenshots as I go, and have a Notepad file open recording techs, contacts, etc, and their date, as well as basic strategy. Is this ok, or is there a better way? Griselda Wrote:Flint, Yeah...and thank you btw Edit: Umm normally i would try and email someone (apparently theres a feature to email ppl thru the forums, havent figured it out tho) about these nooB questions, but since there seem to be a few first time players besides me i guess ill ask here. Do you need any patches for civ3 conquests to play this epic? How do you take a screenshot? What is mapstat and why does it seem so controversial? Well thats all i can think of to ask for now...good luck everyone! Flint Wrote:Yeah...and thank you btw Hey Flint! The Epics are on C3C v1.22 - this has some changes from v1.15b, and is most likely the last patch for Conquests. You can get it from CivFanatics. Just Save it to your desktop, and double click it. To take a screenshot, press the "Print Scrn" button in between the F12 and Scroll Lock keys. Then, open up any photo application (I use Microsoft Paint) and paste it (edit -> paste, or control and V). Then just save it (.jpg is the most common type). If you don't have hosting yourself, you can use ImageShack to host your files so you can post your report here. MapStat is a utility for civ (there's no spoiler informaton - all info you can get from the game). You can learn more about it at Dianthus' (the creator) website. The reason it's controversial, at least for this game, is it has a trade screen (among other things, like a happiness screen, tiles to domination limit, etc), which shows which civs have what to trade. (ie; Civ A has Masonry and Bronze Working. We have The Wheel and Warrior Code). It doesn't say whether the trade'll be accepted, or whether you should trade them or not, it just 'states the facts'. For this game, since you can't look at the F4 (Diplomacy) screen, that screen would be cheating, since it is like the F4 screen, but saves the hassle of looking up individual civs, and what they have to trade. It's a good utility for Single Player games, but for the Epics, I don't use it ... if you do decide to use it, just keep it away from the Trade screen. Good luck!
I take screens as I go but rarely take notes. I tend to focus on my thoughts and plans and reactions, rather than a mechanical history of events, although I try (more so with screens than descriptions) to portray the shape of my civ and the important events.
My style may be unique, though. You'll have to figure out what works best for you. - Sirian

This week is so busy, but I hereby vow to start this epic this weekend
If I run into any questions I'll post it here... Can't wait to get started
What happens if the professor forgets to keep a log?
He was to busy in the lab and forget to write things down! LKendter Wrote:What happens if the professor forgets to keep a log? Even the most absent-minded professor you ever did meet keeps enough focus on his experiments to understand and record his results. If not, then he's not absent-minded but instead is brain-addled and probably not competent enough to come up with interesting findings anyway. I'm sure we'll hear back from most of our professors. - Sirian
