I think it may have been you that suggested it in the first place though so I only stick my tongue out at you PART way
The thing I like about Fractal is that it does a pretty good job at isolating 1-3 civs on another landmass, and (as long as it isn't YOU, in which case just start over), they can be good trading partners because they're usually behind the leaders (so on your level) and they haven't had any WFYABTA counters from the beginning

Maybe we should have a Civ 4 SG for everyone who wants to win Deity at least once, and force uberfish to be our captain :P.

Ouch. You can probably find a couple of old SG reports on CFC where my team dies horribly to infinite AI unit spam :P

In Warlords, yes we can
Darrell and I discussed this via chat, and we think this is the best SG team ever assembled.

Okay I wanted to share the game that urged me to actually make this thread. As I said before, I've been noodling on this concept for awhile.
Here was the start of a game that showed some definite promise
Corn, marble, a river and some good hills and forests.
Went AH and worker to start, and popped Hunting from a hut. Mining next and I popped The Wheel! from a hut too! I think i also popped a scout or warrior too - can't remember. This is deity folks (Adv 47 players don't expect this!! ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) )
Then a pretty standard tech of BW -> Pottery -> Writing -> Masonry (for the marble) -> Aesthetics, which I got in 950 BC.

Did you consider settling on the marble? That looks so tasty.

I found that I was on the north end of a peninsula, so I sent my first cities to the south.
Utrecht (founded 2160 BC) went on a flood plains river site to get copper, and The Hague (1600 BC) also went to the south. Building a few axes with that copper, I was able to take out 2 barb cities in the south.
I got Literature in 450 BC and was finally able to trade for Math and IW in 400 BC.
First scientist in 275 BC and TGL in 175 BC, and I was able to trade various things for CoL, Currency, Calendar, Compass, Monarchy and Construction.
Bulbed my way up to Liberalism as usual, landing it in 620 AD.
Here's a shot from my 660 AD save game.
You can see my capital up in the top of the picture, and my first 2 founded cities, as well as the 2 barb cities I took, including one right out from under Hammurabi's nose.
Thracian was working its way to be my Globe Theater draft camp - it had 2 fish, cows and lots of flood plains.
You can see I'm building the Taj at Amsterdam - I'd lose it on the very next turn - Zara had Nationalism for awhile and beat me.

The religions were shaping up nicely. As you can see, we had Joao, Zara and I who were Confucian, and Hammurabi and Boudica who were Hindu. Boudica actually only recently converted, as did I (so I could get some theocracy powered CR2 Maces). I had gotten a stray artist from the Nat. Epic so I used him to kick off a golden age. I was actually first to Economics too, which is why I am so flush with cash in the screenies.
I was getting some inter-AI wars (always a good thing), and we had some vassalization going on too - at one point Joao vassalized Zara and then he broke free, and later he would vassalize Boudica and Pacal (more on him later)
Because of my barb fighting, I was able to unlock the HE, which I built in the north in Rotterdam. And finally, here's a shot at where the tech situation looked in 1030 AD.
Keeping up (but fading) but most importantly, my intended target (my only neighbor Hammurabi) was down both Gunpowder and Rep. Parts (and Rifling). No rifles for him anytime soon!!!

I had sent some caravels out to find the other island, and in 1130 I found Isabella, who shared an island with Pacal.
As I mentioned upthread, having another more "backwards" island can really help you keep up in tech. Unfortunately in this game, I had met Izzy first and Pacal didn't like that once I met him.
But it was nothing that a little gift of Economics couldn't fix!!
Hammy's time was up in 1150 AD
The war went pretty well - I didn't encounter much resistance at all. It was a bit of slow going because he had a lot of Walls in cities that took awhile to bombard. I would bombard if/where necessary, but sometimes I would just throw em into the meat grinder.
A few turns later here we are - you can see an artist on the way to try and pop borders / end resistance. That didn't really work out as well as I hoped but the war was certainly going well

So let's fast forward a few turns to 1440 AD. Babylon down to 2 cities.
It had taken him forever to not have Capitulation redded out, but the option had been on the table for awhile. I was trying to decide whether I wanted to take it or just take him out to eliminate motherland unhappiness / culture flips.
At this point, I had 18 cities (including 10 former Babylonian ones). Akkad had the Hindu shrine with 37 cities converted!!
This compared to Joao, who had 20 (though he also at this point had Pacal and Boudica vassalized)
I had sent a few of my spare rifles to take out some barb cities on islands
Not sure if that was a good hammer investment or not.
Here's the tech screen.
I'm down at least 5 techs so it's certainly not going to be a walk in the park, but at this point I am feeling good about the potential of this game.
