It seems like the cheating tiles aren't super powerful. Fluffyflyingpig was able to get 913 bpt in 1AD without any cheating, although he wasn't as far along in tech as you are.

If you want to gimp the other continent, researching polytheism at the beginning really makes a big difference.

Could be a good point. Is one more gold mine long term worth losing the city center hammer between turn 0 and Iron Working? I don't know. At this point we're really splitting hairs about the optimal setup though. smile

Well yeah, the ceiling isn't higher, the cheating tiles are just +3 commerce long term over a regular land gold river tile, and food for a scientist or two. The point of the cheating is to get up the tech tree faster. But yeah, I doubt that it'd come in any more than 3 or 4 techs ahead. It was just for kicks, it wasn't supposed to be more powerful. (If it was, then the scenario rules were badly designed if you actually come out ahead by cheating.)

Absolutely true, although that's a function of the map layout and AI identities, and not anything to do with the scenario concept. Perhaps this should have been on a pangaea or more connected map. The purpose of having the two continents was to create a well-delineated line past where conquer-and-milk would be out of bounds.

I played some more on the cheatyface game, but kind of lost interest now. I did the usual Liberalism - Superconductors, built privateers to violate the AIs and block intercontinental contact, then beelined nukes, reaching them about T165 / 1050 AD. Nukes actually aren't so good at blowing up tile improvements, 500 hammers to hit about 4 tiles (seems to be a 50/50 shot per tile?) and you have to work around hitting cities. Went for Flight next to go for bombers to strip tile improvements, then found out with surprise that carriers can only carry fighters and not bombers.

Afraid I don't really have the drive to finish it. My continent is a bit ahead of the others on tech, so the right move is to build enough military (nukes and tanks) to kill them off, and that's more effort than it's really worth at this point. Sorry guys if anyone was expecting another report. alright

I can say the gold economy is clearly much better than food for a warring approach. It can hit the military techs much sooner and use them to hamstring the AIs from then forward. And also the gold tiles go to 3 hammers each with levee and railroad, a massive boost over either type of 1-hammer 7-food tile.

I had the same problem when I tried using fighters and carriers to destroy their improvements. The fighters only have about a 50/50 chance at destroying anything, so it seemed like I was using a lot of hammers to not really do much damage. Actually the hammer cost is irrelevant... the problem is you can only build one unit per turn, no matter how cheap it is. Sending ground troops over for real pillaging works better, but eventually the AIs will kill them. I think the best part of fluffy's nuke gifting strategy was that it caused the AIs to really hate each other, so that they'd fight to the death after using them.

Ran an experiment that surrounded all the AIs; but with ocean instead so they could get off their aprox 16 tile island (unlike Mountains in which they'd be peremantly isolated)
But even at Deity level, AI failed the test.
5 of the AIs never built a Galley to take their free second settler to the mainland which was accessible and in some cases visible by turn 6 from capital culture expanding once.

The only AI that did was Catherine. But she had major problems with the (raging) barbs, she came close to losing St Peterburg only managing to keep it since I was escorting missionaries there, and then when she founded Nov, that city promptly fell to the barbarians and it wasn't until after 1800 AD that she managed to permeantly retake it.
She was in the Industrial era when I launched the spaceship; the rest of the AIs didn't even get to that era.

As with nukes, you can rebase your bombers to any city you share an open border treaty with. Though you might wish to ship troops over to protect them or get those borders closed to the enemy.
