[SPOILERS] Washington of Greece

Pretty much all the lurkers know about Greece comes from China's spoiler thread. So we don't have much more than has been posted I don't think

The reply is, not exactly good.

Quote:Hi WarriorKnight,

Unfortunately times are not ideal for you to take control over.
Warlord did set up the challenge for us that we had just accepted. Too
bad
he dropped out.

It takes some time to forget the actions of your predecessors. Maybe
you could try to make peace worthwhile to us?

If you want peace, you have to make it worthwhile for us.

Regards,
Plako

So it looks like we're going to be at war for a while now. frown Where's that copper? Oh yeah, right at my new city.

Well it turns out I'm not. This is a good time as any to revolt, so that's what I did.

Getting rid of plako's warrior near the copper is going to be challenging. I only have 2 warriors (and a scout which can't attack) so settling on the copper is a real possibility. Not one I want to do but I don't have much choice.

Also I'm not last in score anymore and average in food and production, w00t. smile

It's nice to see new leadership in Greece. Fair or not, the lurkers had a pretty one sided and non-attractive view until now.

This sucks. banghead

OK, so plako moved his warrior onto the copper. Figuring that he's probably going to sit there preventing me getting the resource I attacked him this turn before he could get defensive bonuses. I had 2 warriors in range and had fairly good odds to win, but losing both of them was not an option (I'd be down a settler).

So how did it go?

Only won 2 rounds. banghead I was hoping for a bit better than that. While I had 75% to win with my last warrior I couldn't risk losing him unless it was 95+%. Fortunately barbs are off so not only can my settler run unescorted if necessary but also means that he can only have a single exp point for defending, not enough for a promotion.

I'm building warriors (almost wished I hadn't deleted one of them) to try and get rid of the threat and praying that horses appear somewhere close. Otherwise I'm probably screwed long term if I have to rely on archers.

Assuming that your rule was 95% or better, here were your odds:
33% of the time: Plako's warrior lives with 66HP or better, below your 95% threshold
42% of the time: You get 96% or better odds to clean up
25% of the time: your first warrior wins outright

So you were slightly unlucky there.

Thanks for that. Anyway it's not that bad since now he'll have to attack my warrior guarding my settler while injured.

I'm not sure how I can make warrior vs warrior battles interesting. plako has 2v1ed my warrior near his land and I've retreated rather than risk losing him. Otherwise I get AH and 2 new warriors next turn.

Oh, I actually find the chess match of such duels fascinating, but that may be just me. It's such a constrained system (all units only have 1 move, rarely any promotions to worry about, terrain is king, and 2v1s are usually successful in almost all circumstances), which I actually find more intriguing, because an "ideal" set of actions is usually possible.

I'm sure you all know this, but horses appeared SE of my capital. I won't have a city there for a while, so horses can't help me.

I'm going to gamble and go for the wheel next. The other choice was archery. Assuming I can get rid of plako's warrior on the copper (I'll have 3 warriors there in 5-6 turns and that's sure to do it) the river network can connect my next city (with copper) to Sparta when my capital's border expands in a few turns, and phalanx's are usually better than archers. Plus I need to get to Pottery before I get bankrupt or else I won't have a way of getting out of an economic hole (plus cheap granaries). Of course, it's going to take longer to get Wheel and I need to build some roads, but that's the price I pay.

BTW, I've been looking at the rules, could I get a clarification of what would happen in this situation?

Say I'm already moving in the second half of the turn. What if I want to declare on someone else? (let's just say gaspar since he's the only other team I've met so far) Rule 3 only covers someone else joining in a current war, but not if they get dragged in by someone in the war (being declared by the attacker isn't much of a problem though). Apparently I need to go first and declare within the first 6 hours, but I can't move anything until plako does his move, and he gets 12 hours to do that. Would that then turn into a 3 way split? Or would gaspar get the first half with plako after I've declared on him?
