This sounds like an interesting thing, I've never played before, but if you don't mind a newb, I'll give it a shot.

I'd play but probably after the current werewolf game finishes or goes into low postcount endgame mode
If we rank countries by 1-7, which poor unlucky guy gets Austria? :P
I'm all for Randomly assigned though. Also... 24 hours seems best. Not everyone can make 12 hours all the time (Some of the time, yes, but definitely not all the time). I assume that when everyone sends in their orders, the turn moves on? scooter Wrote:1. How long for each phase? 12 hours per phase or 24 hours per phase? I'd vote for 12, but if some people aren't sure they can do that, we could do 24. 12 hours will lead to trouble. For one thing, we're not going to have consistent time zones, so someone would have to get access every single morning and evening, which may be a problem. It's not like the game is all that many turns (a long game is, what, 15-20 actual turns?), we'd be talking 6-8 weeks, tops, if each turn was no more than 3 days. That's nothing compared to the PBs and PBEMs we have going on. If we have a way to run it in-house, that would be good. Being only a second-time Diplomacy player, let me just say that the game is far more about, uh, diplomacy skills, than it is about specific tactics of the game. EDIT: @Amelia: Yeah, that's probably a good idea. And for the "Retreats" phase, only those players who need to send in any orders at all should go. I'd figure its about time for RB to watch Dr. Playnice or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Backstab. ![]()

Yes, we need to all understand that diplo in this game is far different from Civ... I mean it is literally the name of the game. ![]() ASM - how would you run it in house? Selrahc referred to map tools, but I don't know of any. Do you know of tools to do something like this?
You can just get any graphical program like paint.net with extra layers and mark troop locations on that. :]
Yeah, the game isn't for the weak of heart and you shouldn't play it with people you've just met. Its basically playing poker with a table full of Otto von Bismarks.

Realms beyond, i present to you Diptool
A diplomacy tool =) (I have no idea how to use it yet though, it was used by other gamemasters). And for those new to diplomacy, here is a 5 minute guide to diplomacy. scooter Wrote:Yes, we need to all understand that diplo in this game is far different from Civ... I mean it is literally the name of the game. I GM'd several diplomacy games for my friends while I was in undergrad. I can GM this one. I would be using JDIP to plot things out and generate pictures. I can also send anonymous press for folks if you want to play with press. |
