[SPOILERS] Woof! Woof! Bad dog! No biscuit! Charadon of the Doviello

Quote:It looks like the mapmaker wants me to settle here

lol lol lol

I've given up on trying to predict what players are going to do. I just try to give a nice option or two and then sit back and watch as the players go off in a totally different direction.

Okay, so I got some sleep and will once again ponder the "to settle or not to settle" question.
If I had to guess, I think the mirror may be positioned so that several players can (barely) see it when their settler stands on a hill. Or something to that effect. It just offers such a ridiculous sight bonus when stacked on the super settler bonus. Of course, the Doviello need it more than others, so it may only be close to me and I might be moving away from all/most other players.
However, if this is the case, then at least some people are very likely to send a scout, not a settler, to it. If I send a settler(ahead of its escorts) and someone else sends a scout... Well that's game over right there. All in all this possibility makes things a lot riskier, and it still costs me several turns and moves me away from fantastic land.

Overall, I'm going to go with my gut and play it "safe." i'm the last person who can afford to be wandering around for several turns(on quick!) before founding.

Okay I decided to settle the plains hill. I'll do a full writeup later.

Plus I seem to have accidentally discovered a bug that reveals several unique features(like the Elohim can see.) I can't pop any dungeons so this isn't a super huge deal but it is worth reporting. I'll try not to let it influence me.

I had bare map and resources indicators on, and I zoomed out to globe view. I'll post screenshots as part of my writeup later.

If this is a known exploit, I swear I didn't know about it.

It's a known exploit.

Sorry about that, then. I'll skip with the screenshots.

I managed to do this in PBEM V too. I couldn't replicate it though.

Starting with the writeup, will finish it and insert images when I get home.

Okay, so I settled the plains hill "red box" spot, popping the hut in the process. Unfortunately I got the worst possible result, a map that barely added anything at all.
I started on a worker and a calendar beeline. I don't know if this is the best way to work a rush but I can't see myself doing well without it(even with a successful rush.)
I sent a unit(either lucian or the beastman, I forget which one) toward the mirror of heaven, and the scout towards the 2 southern huts.

I guess I'm required to do the same moves over again when I replay it? I hope so because I'm still not 100% sure I made the right decision regarding the settler.

I think the general rule is that you can't use knowledge you wouldn't have had. The extreme example of that would be starting off by moving the settler its maximum distance in every direction, reloading in between, to get more scouting info that you should reasonably have.

So you could have chosen not to settle, but only if you did the rest of your moves identically so that that change was with identical information. And only if you gained no information from settling the first time (like, say, the result of that hut).

Well I think I can reasonably say that the hut revealed only tiles I could also have seen from the Mirror(mostly just more icy floodplains. Nice idea btw.)

To keep things fair and simple, I'll settle in the same location. Especially because I can't "unremember" that Yggdrasil and some other goodies are also to the west.

Okay, I'm having trouble connecting to the internet on my primary computer, so screenshots will be trickier until I get that fixed. However I'll still provide a basic turn report...

Lucian is currently moving toward the mirror of heaven. I figure he'll need to kill a few animals to become dangerous and that should point him in the right direction.
The scout is heading south toward the two tribal villages, with any luck he'll get better results than the last hut.
The beastman is heading northeast a bit toward the coast, once he reaches it he'll circle back northwest until he's north of the capital. Eventually I want to put him on or near the mirror of heaven to maintain the visibility bonus. I need to figure out where everyone is quickly so I can put a nice rush together.

My capital is currently constructing a worker while working the 2F/2H ancient forest tile. It should pop borders in 2 more turns. After the worker I'll probably start popping out beastmen.
