1. Oh, moving pieces is different than chess.com, you have to drag and drop them. Clicking on them will use the current best move from the opening book it seems.

2. What are your system specs? Does it happen with Fritz6 light and Crafty as well?

I updated the 2nd post with a link to over 10,000 free tactical chess positions in ChessBase format. Open them in ChessBase and if you can't calculate everything in your head, move pieces around or simply turn on the kibitz engine for the solution.
The great thing about this method is that you can explore side variations - very often the web based practice only allows for one correct line without telling you why another move doesn't work. With the ChessBase format you can check all interesting variations.
