I do think in general a Facebook account is unnecessary, but I think we should have a backup place to discuss it for when the site is down.
I realise that that is what the moved server is for, but I think it would be useful to have even a QT where stuff like that is discussed in the potential absence of the forum.

An automatic twitter account that tweets when the forums are down would be nice :P

I voted "black sheep"; I don't even have Facebook!
I agree with Seven that updating the main RBCiv and RB pages should be a higher priority.
Big-picture, I like that RB is a smaller community, but that's just me (it really does feel like a community far more than any other forum I've been on, by the way; I think that's part of it). I kind of hope Civ IV remains the or a main focus of the site, since that's what brought me here. I'm just getting started; I hope there are tons more pbems in the future!

Or just emails people who wanna sign up for it.
BTW updating the main site is high on the to-do lists and has been discussed within the last week. None of us have been able to have the time to approach it quite yet though.

I don't really want to test it.

The thing to remember when anyone vote "BAD IDEA" it would be helpful if you can set an example why it would be a bad idea, rather than you don't see any benefit for RB of any social media. Seeing no benefits does not equal bad idea.
According to what BRick wrote, he should have voted Black Sheep or Maybe. I don't know how he'd voted, just saying he didn't list why it would be a bad idea. I've voted Sheep myself, I am just throwing the idea out there.

Haven't seen any coherent argument FOR it + Facebook involved = Bad Idea.

BAD IDEA: Privacy. You need a FB account to benefit from FB group, and FB accounts that you use are probably intimately tied up in your RL person, not your internet persona. I'm sorta out there, but I know a bunch of you aren't and it's probably best that that be a decision on an individual basis, not a site-wide basis.

Which could also lead to segmenting of the userbase, as people who have FB and are okay with the issues it can have will be separated by those who don't have facebook, or choose not to opt in.
