Good catch Q! The start might be a noob-trap crafted by Krill. The obvious spot might not be the best. I'll take a look at the sandbox and micro plans after I've watched yesterday's Survivor and GoT before I get spoiled.

Sandbox we have 3 starting techs, was that intended? :P

Start with Agri+TW would be nice.
Tech route: AH, Pottery, Fishing, Mining, BW
Build route: Worker, Warrior, Workboat, Settler (and 2-pop whip)
Worker route: Pasture, roads for 3 turns, two cottages, road 1 turn, mine hill, then go chop

Best one I could come up with.

I think it's clear now that our start isn't an exception.

Being the last one to pick a Civ presents an opportunity: If no-one picks a Civ that starts with Mysticism, we can get a guaranteed religion. It can slow down our start a bit, but if we're out of good candidates then might as well. It'd likely come with a much stronger UU+UB as well since everyone has been picking solely based on starting techs. Except maybe the Ottomans pick, but they are OP and have good starting techs AND good UU+UB

If we have time its good to pick up a religion, but I don't like putting it before the start.
