[Spoilers] The Vikings Search for the Perfect Land Longboat

Finally ... I have proof that this map was edited to some degree ... that rare deep water harbor condition known as Coastal Ocean.

Now to play the first turn and write up the first turn report.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Gah! Mistake! Lynch the mapmaker!

I basically rolled this map that had a 6th player spot NW of the continent and sunk that into the ocean to make the 5 player playing field. Which is why there's that issue.

Fair enough. I wasn't poking you (too hard), just pointing out some fun things.

That reminds me ... I must remember to post some pics of Demographics, F3 (Civics) and F7 (Religion). Does anyone else what to see other pics?

Oh I was just having fun with it, no offense taken at pointing that out.

Here are some of the screen shots I mentioned above. I still need to pick up the demos.

The shots below in spoilers are for my first turn report ... should be up some time today. You can look but they might not make 100% sense without some explanation.

Turn 75 - 1 AD

Here is the very first turn of this pbem. The game has actually been going for 75 turns ... but a Deity AI played them. You can see what I started with above.

I open the official save and I am greeted with ...

Hence my comment in the tracking thread ...

... given that I was contemplating selling Jute to Inca anyway. I definitely wanted his 2nd stone but I wasn't sure about how much gold per turn to ask for. 20gpt does it for me. However, I didn't want the gold and stone locked together like that ... mainly because I wanted a permanent stone trade. Hence ...

... followed up with a Stone demand. Now, Molach of Inca could accept the first and reject the second. This will be a little test of character.

I worked through my cities, leaving suggested builds largely untouched. I did change a few ...
  • A 3-turn 167 hammer Colossus in my Capital - I should be able to land this ... Inca don't have Marble. If one of the players following me in the turn order can knock it off in 2 turns ... then good for them.
  • tweaked 5-turn Hagia
  • Market in coastal city with Shrine
  • Khmer UB (for the extra food - ha ha) in that horrible blocking city
  • and only 1 additional worker (sigh)
The two workers in my opponents land I sent home. Tech is set at 0% (+140ish gpt) on Engineering. I should be able to go 100% tech to knock it off over the next few turn. I also spread my two shrine religions to a few cities (started with 4 missionaries).

The settler in the west went further west to found a new city as mentioned in the game review write up. Speaking of settlers - here is the middle of my land with the settler selected. There are a few disgusting but possible city locations ...

My lux resources are pretty slim ...

... so Ruffnar is using MPs for happiness. I had to limit the number of units I could move around for that reason. I also had a stack of 7 axes off for a stroll ... they are heading to a border city.

I also changed the name of my leader (from Ragnar to Ruffnar) and civilization (from Khmer to Come 'ere)

I offered OBs to France and Wine for Gems to America.

I've just completed a 3-turn Colossus and my GNP increased from 265 to 282. Nearest rival is 233. I'm #2 in hammers and #4 in every other category. Hopefully, I will be able to leverage my tech lead.

Speaking of tech ... here is the tech trade screen that I haven't shown before.

Next tech after Eng is CoL (1 turn). I won't bother rushing for The Great Library as I imagine it is already under construction in at least one location ... so I will have to think about where to after CoL.

Apparently, Turkey to convert the historic Hagia Sophia into a mosque. Well I won't let them ... because the Vikings own it! Now my workers are +50% faster. I am glad this is a 'quick' game because +50% for a two turn road in Normal is still two turns. I seem to remember on quick a turn turn road is now a one turn road smile.

Because on Quick it's not really a two-turn road, it takes 1.33 worker turns. You just can't do anything with the leftover two-thirds of a worker turn. But Hagia Sophia brings the 1.33 to 0.89 which takes one worker one turn.

Thx T-Hawk. I knew it would be something like that. Glad to see that my memory isn't (that) faulty.
