If you refuse to let anyone check over the map, then yeah we'll have to get someone else. It's not fun to commit months of time to a game only to find out we're playing on some unbalanced gimmick map none of the players asked for.

I've never released a second-party-unchecked map unless it was a mirror map.
Cornflakes, it often works well to give a desired #cities and/or #tiles for map size. PB9 was on the big side of average, though, particularly when some crazy genius decided to rush Rome.

Commodore, I have never set up a map so I just looked over my PB9 stitch and counted tiles. You and I were 10 tiles apart on a direct diagonal, and that feels about right. Diagonal distance "feels" further than horizontal distance so maybe a couple more if aligned horizontally or vertically. That leaves something like 120 tiles/person *.66 = 80 land tiles, or 5-6 core cities and then cities start getting cramped along the borders.
I completely BS's the above numbers, so don't take those to mean much if they don't make sense.

Probably best not to start rolling maps until we get another player or two. I don't mind waiting a week or two to start.

Hey there all I just joined Realms Beyond, basically because I am looking for a few more games to play like this. I am in a couple of PBEM games at Civfanatics, of which I started partaking in 6 months ago but it still doesn't give me enough of a civ fix since gamespy went down!
Although I am fairly new to the world of PBEM I have had much experience of 'AI diplo' type games which is basically what all of onilne civ is. I also have recently started pitbossing too. I believe I play to a fairly high level, being fairly good in always war duels online and winning more than my fair share of pan FFAs, so I'm sure I will be able to be competitive in this game.
I especially like the idea of creating a balanced, map maker made map. When I suggested a more balanced and fairer map script over the other site I was mercilessly shot down as boring for wanting people to have roughly equal starts. I also quite like the sound of all the suggested rules/alterations for a more balanced match. Seems like people here think more along my wavelength of not wishing to invest a good proportion of time in an heavily unfair map.
Hope you guys will want me to join I'm easy and keen to get another game going.
I did have a question - will you be using the tracker?
