Zalson plays one turn at a time [COMPLETE]

3800 BC and borders pop!

Should have planted one tile south but how was I supposed to know that Rice was there?

Hunting next turn! Then I think ... mining next.

I did some simulating (which is a pain in the butt to set up, in case you've never done it before).

Hunting > Mining > Agri > AH
T6 > 3520 Mining > 3240 Agri > 2960 AH (T27)
1 worker 2 scouts
Mine Gems > Farm FP

Same tech path, 2 workers
worker at 3t to completion on T 27
Mine gems, Farm FP

Hunting > Agri > AH
Size 3 on T 27 (with no worker builds, obviously), 1 scout
Farm FP, road on FP, 2T on Pasture

Hunting > Mining > AH (T26!!!)
1 worker, 2t from 2nd worker
Gems on hill, Road off gems, Pastured Cows

Hunting > AH > Mining

I think we have a winner!

1 worker, 1 scout (I think I'll grow to size 2 and then start a worker, which renders that fairly moot).

Cow Pasture, 2 roads (I'll omit one I think to make sure I can start the gems on T24) and 2t to gems on T27.

T6: Complete Hunting research. Start Animal Husbandry research (switching off mining).

Only 1 turn away from ... discovering new territory.

Unfortunately, these early turns are very boring. I suppose I could be doing cloak and dagger work but -- what's the point?

Yeah, there's not much to say during these early turns while you build a Worker and quietly explore. I don't think anyone would begrudge you if you fast-forwarded through them smile

For sure. I should have a large update coming next turn. You know, once I've gotten some better scouting done.

Part of the goal of this project is to practice patience and deliberation. These early turns don't make it easy.

Even when there are challenging single-player games played in a succession games (think of the deity games over at CivFanatics in the old days) players tended to play at least 10 turns in a session. So don't worry about speeding things up early. Also, at this difficulty level, Monarch, the amount of micromanagement and simming you do should not matter in the grand scheme. I would suggest detailed sims/plans only on Immortal at minimum.

No I disagree with that, I think its worth knowing the effect of different approaches at all difficulty levels, rather than just at the levels where you need to be able to do it

@DMOC -- I've been a part of those succession games smile

The goal here isn't to "earn a conquest Victory on Monarch" -- I can go back to old save files and do that if I want to. The goal is to practice my micro and synergistic approach to the game. I've been interested in PBEM games for a bit but want to make sure I can manage the time commitment.

I did some discovery this morning and found new lands to post to this thread -- look for that tonight or tomorrow -- ALONG WITH A COMPLETE TACTICAL SITUATIONAL REVIEW!

Incidentally, it seems like everyone on here uses dropbox legacy accounts to host screenshots? Is that the case? I've got my own wesbite hosting these screenshots-- and I think I just need to go back and do some additional image compression to make sure these screenshots are as minimally-sized as possible.
