Well, +2/+1 adamantium would still be very powerful, not just as gamebreaking. I'm not so overly concerned by it though.

For me tweaking the production would achieve the same.

Your mountain nerf could have already achieved balance, I'd need to see that in practice before commenting. Is it in 5.02?

For food, I've always considered the low desirability of coastal towns really weird. If you can't make oceans suddenly productive how about raising the food of coasts and reducing a bit grasslands to compensate? Both 1 would be a good ratio for me. (Remember that there's rivers on land that already raise it so it's not such a big nerf for grasslands)

Mountains are in 5.03, not yet released as that was supposed to be the draconian update mainly but I got swamped in the other problems and then shocked by how bad draconians were so it's late.

Oceans are fine as is. You build there to
-have access to ships
-have access to merchant guild.

Also we don't want 1 tile islands to be a good place for a city. Nor that norther edge with 3 tundra tiles and 9 shore/ocean.

Those still wouldn't be good places as the production bonus would still be abysmal. They just wouldn't suck as much as now :D

Edit: to clarify, I'm proposing to change coastlines, your 1 tile island example makes me think that you think that I propose all oceans. I would, but you said that it's impossible to code so nevermind that.

The pole tiles are a really important point here. Sending units there can cause super strange/bad behavior in the game, so we never want players to accidentally think its worth putting outposts there for amp towers.

Then just clear the top and bottom line of tiles from land, no? I think the map generator already does that for coordinates +2 and +3 and their south mirror.

My stance is bad terrain should be bad. I see no reason to change that. Games where every tile is equally good are boring. (even if it helps the starting positions become more balanced, it's not worth that price)
