Always war monarch and raging barbs is probably a bit too much. Churchill looks to me like, "tech to Redcoats, roflstomp the AI". If we get to rifles first we're gravy, if we get to rifles & cannon even more so.
Toku is actually quite an interesting character to play, a useless unique building, an interesting unique unit (Samurai replace maces get extra strikes and access to the Drill line though you do need Iron) and decent techs in fishing and the wheel (though not the holy duo of agri or mining). And with the really awful traits of Agg/Pro you've to do all your own economy.

I think we're a go for:
- Raging Barbs
- Highlands Map Script
- Diplo Victory off, all other settings enabled except must win by ... conquest or domination?
Settings we still want to think about:
Difficulty: Prince or Monarch?
Leader: Churchill, Toku
Other Settings: Always War? Tech Trading? Select other civs?
It's an SG so I think we can probably go Monarch without too many problems. Always War Monarch, though, is very difficult. Raging barbs and highlands might make it simpler -- or it might make it more difficult.
Leader: I really like the idea of taking a pathetic Tokugawa to victory. Drafted rifles FTW! Alternatively, Churchill.
If we're going to leave tech trading on, I think we stack the deck for the AIs: give 'em Mansa, Huyana, Willem, Julius Caesar, Shaka? Monty and Genghis are too war happy, I think. Plus Shaka'd be a very difficult opponent...
Maybe tech trading allowed, always war, on prince, with those leaders?
Any thoughts?
I'd be very happy to try Toku. I've rarely played with tech trading on - is the idea to leave it on to give the AI an edge but not take advantage ourselves? If not, I'd probably rather have it off. I'd also be interested in hearing from RFS-81: even if he doesn't actually want to play he is the inspiration for this, after all. I'm not sure about "always war" - seems it can be a grind (or a brick wall) rather than a challenge; I'm still waiting for Sullla to finsh that game on YouTube...

I'm up for it!
As I said, I'd like a game with a military focus, but I'll leave the details up to you! Always war sounds a bit extreme though.

Always War does tend to be rather a slog. And it ups the difficulty quite a bit -- Monarch Always War is a very tough challenge.
Mixing some decent tech leaders into the AI slate to keep the tech pace a bit faster is probably a good idea, if we have tech trading on.
How large a map do we want to play, and how many AIs? We could fit more leaders in but larger maps do tend to take longer to play and be a heavier load on the system particularly in late game.
Toku could be fun for a military-oriented game. I rarely play him (for obvious reasons) so it would be interesting. When played by a human and without his AI isolationism, he is not that bad a leader. The samurai can be useful, and while his traits are terrible economically they do give plenty of help on the military side.

It seems like everyone's interested in Tokugawa, so we'll go with Toku.
Most everyone's sour on AW so we won't do that.

The idea is that we'd give the AIs tech trading and Mansa Musa so's they can keep up but we would not take a tech trade (we can give gifts/submit to tribute demands if needed). I guess we can kind of roleplay Tokugawa?
As for map size: let's do Standard/Normal? We don't want too much slogging.
I'll generate a start and a new thread tonight. We can all sim from the start if we want?

If you want to fit six people into an SG, one way is to play on Epic speed.
Tech trading helps whoever is behind, since trading is their effective multiplier to catch up. On low difficulty, the AIs trade with each other to (somewhat) keep pace with the player. On high difficulty, the player trades with middle-of-the-pack AIs to catch up with the leading ones.

On Monarch, I'm not too concerned about our tech vulnerability.

T-Hawk, we only have 5 for now. Unless you're angling into be 6th with that post

Tech trading on but refusing to trade techs ourselves would give the AIs a decent advantage economically. On Monarch we should not have too much trouble keeping up with the overall tech pace even with that, unless we get a real powerhouse of an AI and fairly terrible land ourselves.
We have not really discussed speed. I am happy with normal or epic.
The rest sounds good to me (standard size, Toku, etc.).
