If I read the RtR stuff correctly, pastures are now at Hunting and camps at Animal Husbandry? So Hunting for the Sheep rather than AH?
[Spoilers] RFS-81 and haphazard1 don't know RtR, but won't let that stop them

Hunting does indeed do pastures now.
If you are more solid on leader than civ feel free to go leader with your pick, folks are waiting.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Quite a few interesting little differences like that in the mod notes; I may have to try a personal game with RtR at some point. No time right now, though.
Pacal is an interesting leader, and usually strong. Any thoughts on civ choice yet? No idea which will still be available yet, of course, but speculation can be fun.
All the others have picked civs at this point, so you can think about which civ you want without worry about your choice being taken. Some interesting combinations chosen so far.
Oh damn, I was busy with the SG today, and I'm already up!
Can you make some suggestions? We want hunting. And maybe Agriculture for the rice and a farm on the spices? Or mining to get to BW faster?
Hmmm, civs starting with Hunting:
Persia and Zulu have already been taken (Hunting + Agriculture). Remaining: Hunting + Mysticism: Aztecs, Celts, Holy Rome Hunting + Mining: Ethiopia, Germans, Khmer, Russia Hunting + Fishing: Greece, Vikings Hunting + Wheel: Mongolia Mining as a head start to BW is always nice, but the civ pickings are pretty slim. Germany has been buffed some in RtR but is still pretty much a late game civ with its UU and UB showing up in the medieval period or later. Russia similar, nothing to help in the early game at all. Ethiopia and Khmer are OK civs, nothing really exciting with their uniques. Fishing for the seafood is a possibility; Greece has pretty good UU. Vikings UU was changed a bit in RtR but still mainly useful for a water-heavy map. Wheel can be nice for early resource hook ups and such, and your workers will always have things to do. Mongols have solid UU and UB. Mysticism would mean going for an early religion to take advantage of it. No idea if that is part of your plans. The civs here have some interesting unique stuff, with the HRE's coming a bit later than the others. Of course, Hunting is one of the cheapest techs in the game. You could go for a different set of starting techs (Agriculture for the rice, or Fishing for the seafood, plus whatever) and just research hunting. It would open up more options if you do not like any of the remaining Hunting civs.
It begins!
I've settled in place, as planned, and began producing a worker. The tile picker chose a 2 f 1 h forest tile, which I corrected to the sheep tile. My naming scheme is Hawkwind songs, to herald the weedy moves to come The capital is Golden Void. I plan to post screenshots, but this time, the game didn't save them. I edited my password in the first post, so you can have a look yourself. Maybe it has to do something with me running the game as admin, and the screenshots are saved in an unexpected location? I don't understand why I need to run it as admin in the first place. My regular user account has full access to the game directory, and all game data is stored in its home directory anyway.
Civ IV is old enough that it does not play well with modern (or even semi-modern) Windows systems. And the multiplayer setup does some things with connections that Windows does not like for security reasons.
Screenshots should be in the folder within the Civ IV directory, at least if you are using the in game screenshot facility. Not sure what might be happening there. On tiles, might be an RtR thing? Going for more hammers, even if equal in total food+hammers, can be useful if you get a bonus on building workers. Not sure if that is the case here, and working a forest does tend to mean not getting the extra commerce from the river on the sheep tile. Initial tech choice? |
