Turn 54 Continued

The Clan declared on the Amurites! In terms of this game and my position it is great news but for Sareln - alright A POW rush in the first game and now a choke by the clan... poor guy.

Diplo-wise this is easy to deal with. There is nothing I can do to stop it so I doubt Sareln will even ask. Business as usual!

Turn 55

Here is the situation in the Clan region:

That wolf rider is clearly heading west and most likely to aid in the choke of the Amurites. Tredje is also about to settle his 3rd city! With his economy!!! huh Great! that'll bring his teching ability to almost non-existent so I won't be expecting anything other than warriors from him for a while to come!

After the completion of Barny the power graph looks pretty cool!

Lastly a diplo update...

I did end up sending that message to Serdoa and this is his response:

Stinky Zombie Wrote:Hi SL,

I am not sure about a NAP. I want to be honest, I don't feel it is in my interest. Not because I want to attack everyone but because my land is so bad, I need to keep everyone nervous about pyre zombies so that they do build troops instead of settlers and workers and therefore are at least a little bit hampered in their expansion. Does that mean I will attack? Probably not. But you can never be sure now, can you? wink

As for AV: That might happen yeah. If it does we surely can review our positions.

Kind regards,
Serdoa

hmm...well if keeping people on their toes is his game, he is winning!

What I really really want to do is forget about the time-bomb that are the Sheaim and get on with building some settlers and mud golems. I am building a settler in my capital now and will follow that up with a mud golem followed most likely by another wood golem.

I'm not going to cripple myself in a cold war effort - especially seeing as he isn't building up military. As much as I would like to rush him, many days mulling over the though with a smoke and a pancake has led me to believe that it is best to just expand and then see what happens diplomatically. Serdoa is quiet with others too and so I don't think I am going to get dogpiled by him and someone else atm. My only fear is if him and Iskender get talking...

Couldn't resist!

Just sent this to Serdoa:

Mysterious Dwarf Wrote:Hey Serdoa,

No problem on the nap front - while it would be convenient to have one, i don't consider it essential for good relations at the moment. Our borders are still far enough away that the threat of a sneak attack is pretty easy to spot.

I don't think it is any lie that I have considered rushing you for the fact that you will posses PZ's but please don't consider me a threat, for now. touche. ;-)

I jest - just trying to keep you honest as you are me. I feel that our civ's are still "feeling one another out" for want of a better phrase and so the misty air of declaring intentions is thick. It will clear.

Cheers,
SL

Should keep him on his toes!

Sent this to the Clan too:

Friendly Dwarf Wrote:Hey Tredje,

Just a quick note to say congrats on the, soon to be founded, 3rd city! Hope all is going well with the war against the Amurites. I haven't heard from them since you declared and don't really expect to considering there is nothing I'd do to stop you!

Cheers,
SL

Tredje just hit me up on chat and then disappeared!

Chat so far... Wrote:11:26 Tredje: Hey, you around?
me: hello - Yup
Tredje: I've been wanting to catch you online
To inform you of what's going on
As you have noticed we have declared war on the Amurites
11:27 me: I am not surprised although I expected the declaration to be against the clowns
11:28 Tredje: Yes, we considered it. But there were some factors that argued against it.
And we got 2 Archers in the West with For the Horde
11:29 me: ah - I guess the wolf rider I saw is going to support them then
Tredje: Yeah, that's the plan. We don't intend to attack any cities or anything, just set the Amurites back as much as we can.
11:31 me: That makes perfect sense. I pressume that you have a price to call off the choke though - I don't expect you to tell me of course.
For the horde hit you pretty hard on the gnp front but your power is impressive
11:32 Tredje: Yeah, we got more than could be hoped for really. Even if it did stifle our economy quite a bit.
11:33 How are things in Dwarven lands? Still pursuing you Wood Golem plan?
11:36 me: sorry - phone rang
11:37 the WG plan is underway - My power is almost up with yours now.
I am considering stalling the plan for better or worse to get out some more cities though
Where'd you go! wink

12:04 Tredje: Hey, still here?

Whether you were still pursuing the WG plan?

wink
like i said - I am going to throw down another city in the meantime i think
12:06 Tredje: I see
have you had anyone approach you about the increase in power?
me: nope - I expect a few people are nervous...
12:07 I have a little communication with Serdoa actualy
He says he won't sign a nap when I raised the subject since he wanted to keep me honest....
Tredje: Hehe
me: my power at the moment is pretty honest!
12:08 Tredje: Honestly, he should be careful.
Hehe
me: yup
Tredje: Any idea how far he is from PZs?
me: nah - I know he has mining already but BW is going to be something like a 25t tech from scratch.
atm anyway
12:09 i don't know what else he will pick up before then or if he intends on geoing straight for BW...
12:11 Sareln has had the save for ages - have you put him in a compromising position?
Tredje: Right. I guess we will have to see.
I don't think so, lol.
12:12 Although I guess it would suck to have 2 C1 Archers enter your lands.
12:14 me: if you have 2 archers with C1 then they are going to defend at 10.2 on forest and 8.7 on hill and 11.7 on forest hill... that is very hard to break...
Tredje: Practically impossible I'd say
With no Copper yet
12:15 me: even with copper it is hard.
but not impossible
Tredje: True
me: he still only has 1 city though right?
I must admit - his worldspell is a pain in the arse for me. Not being able to repair golems is kinda poo...
12:16 Tredje: Yeah, I think we'll all feel a bit better once he has blown it =)
But I don't see that happening for a while.
At least he should be set back by our choke
12:18 Have you heard anything from Iskender recently?
He just got Aristocracy, so it looks like he is teching hard.
12:19 me: Another phone call...
12:20 yeah - we have had a few in character emails that were fun!
I snuck a really crap dwarf spy into his palace to send him a note - the spy proceeded to eat crisps and fart a lot...
12:21 We agreed to a short nap - I don't want invisible units approaching anytime soon!
you spoken to him much?
12:23 Tredje: Some in the beginning.
Not for a while though.
Will be interesting to see how he acts now that we are at war with the Amurites.
12:24 me: what does he have to gain from aiding the wizards? I'd say - not a lot.... if you choke them then he can expand towards them
12:26 Tredje: Yeah, if anyone is a winner in all of this it's probably him.
12:27 Anyway, I have to get going. There was one thing I wanted to ask first though.
me: yeah - he has gone farmers gambit and not been called on it...
Tredje: Would you agree to a NAP?
me: with you?
sure
Tredje: Hehe, yeah
me: wink
what are you thinking?
12:28 Tredje: I have no suspicions. It's just nice to have something official.
me: sure
Tredje: We could say until T100 maybe?
And talks about renewing it 10 turns before it ends.
12:29 me: Well - considering we have already sorted out border negotiations I don't think we need a short nap incase they deterriate so yeah. that sounds fine.
12:30 I don't suppose you'd do me a favour?
phone again brb
12:31 quick one!
If you have a map of the south of the lake between iskender and I?
Could you send me a ss?
12:32 Tredje: Hmm, sure.
12:33 me: I'm interested purely from defending against any water or land attacks from the saidar down the line and I'm going to be recalling my warrior near you soon for settler excort..
escort*
Tredje: I see.
I don't think you have to fear any land attack from the southern route, as we will block him off from that area quite soon.
12:34 me: Ah - great
his invisible units would be able to use it though...
Tredje: That is true
12:35 me: don't want to be caught with my pants down so I'm thinking of using floating eyes to spot them or maybe hawks.
12:36 Tredje: Yeah, that is definitely something to keep an eye out for.
12:38 Lol, I closed the window
How rude of me
12:39 me: totally - I almost ripped up the nap! wink
Tredje: Thank goodness dwarves don't bear grudges!
me: Luchuirp are too lazy for remembering grudges!
Tredje: Happy to hear it, hehe
I really have to go now though
Have a nice day and bye
12:40 me: cheerss you too

So we have a nap until T100 with negotiations again on T90. That is ok - we have a border agreement already in place and so I'm not intending on being silly and arguing the toss over duration. It is staggered with our nap (T80) with the Sidar which adds flexibility.

I must have missed to log or it only happened last turn but Iskender is in Agristocracy!!! Nice work! He will be a bit of a tech whore it would seem! The Sidar are a great foil for this since no one considers them a threat! Long term I expect to be able to deal with him so no worries really.

I sent this to tredje to make our nap official:

Square Leg Wrote:In the Luchuirp capital of Totoro, Throion Vo was hard at work. The master engineer was a short man, well shorter than most men of the realm at least! He had a beard down to his knees that was full of wood chippings. Sweat ran from his furrowed brow as he frantically ran around the room muttering to himself.

"where's that picture of a goblin?" he chanted as he opened every drawer in the higglety-pigglety mess that was the City of Totoro Sculpture Studio.

"FOUND IT!" he suddenly yelled and then disappeared into a flurry of chiseling and sawing....

Time passed.

The Studio's resident mice were getting excited. They all lined up ready for the big unveil. Sat in a row on deck chairs with party poppers and the like they were quite a sight!

Eventually Thorion emerged from the studio with something no bigger than himself but covered in a white sheet.

"ahem" he coughed as the mice talked amongst themselves.... They continued to talk.

"AHEM" - the letters almost visible in the air. The mice shut up and organised themselves into a neat line up.

"My latest Golem goes in peace with a note" he said. "To the Orcs and Golbins here is our offering" and with that the sheet was whipped off!

The mice all cheered and the party poppers went off filling the air with smoke and paper streamers! The Golem Goblin was revealed in all its err.... elegance. Totally naked it had inscribed on its left buttock:

"NAP till T100, 10t renewal terms" Below it was signed "Garrim Gyr"

There appears to be a space on the right buttock for you signature. Will you sign it? ;-)

Looking for some input here from plako and Jkaen.

Should I bother with attacking the Sheaim right now?

I am starting to think that no is the right answer. All the diplo is here and there are graphs and the like around to help decide but I think that my power at the moment buys me quite a bit of time to get a couple of settlers out whilst levelling up Barny.

Tech path after Mining would be straight to CoL via Education for Aristocracy. After that - probably to Knowledge of the Ether for some adepts.

I don't trust Serdoa and think that he has something up his sleeve either for me or Bob but I am paying attention to the graphs and I expect to be able to spot any build up.

Let me know your thoughts guys!

I don't trust Serdoa right now either, but with your power rating you are safe right now.

Plako is more experienced than me, but my understanding from reading threads is that unless you are cramped for room (which you are not) early wars always tend to be a bad idea.

Hence I would certainly keep a noticable power rating to make others more appealing, but expand right now.

Plus its my understanding you dont really have the force/tech right now to easily crack fortified warriors on a hill

Agreed - although, I think if I really wanted to go for it I could crack him using catapults - they have a 80% withdrawal rate in ffh... that seems almost broken!

Like you say though - unless cramped for room there is no need to fight.

Serdoa's message seems to indicate we're top of his hit list. Nevertheless I doubt you could get more than 1 city (with pretty high costs) before he gets Pyre Zombies. Better to focus WGs on defense now. If you see Serdoa's power raising, building few cats is also a good idea.

Hey plako,

I agree that we sound quite high on Serdoa's hit list which actually surprises me a little. I thought he would be better off rex'ing towards the clowns and getting all "up in their face" rather than mine seeing as all the good land that is near his capital is down that way. What is he going to fight me for? A dry corn and a reagents plains hill???

He isn't getting my capital thats for damn sure!

I will be sure to keep an eye on the graphs and as soon as his power starts to go up I will react. Being able to build a WG in 2t at the capital is great and Barny should hopefully have some combat promo's by then making them even stronger.

Speaking about the graphs, Bob apears to have been paying attention:

Queen of Hearts Wrote:Heya,

Waaay back when, in a chat, you floated the possibility of us signing an NAP. At the time I declined, on the basis that neither of us was going to rush off and stream warriors through the jungle at each other for no evident reason. And now... well, that really hasn't changed. But with ever-more dangerous units appearing every turn (exploding corpses! Goblins with poisoned arrows! Wooden soldiers animated by rabbinic dark arts led by robo-Abe Sapien! A pyrotechnic axe!), it seems prudent to me to start confirming safe borders. So- the ever-lovable Balseraph people wish to assure you that we totally definitely probably absolutely don't have any hostile intentions. What do you say to confirming the same with us, with an NAP until turn 100, with a 10-turn cooldown?

(Note- I made up those NAP duration numbers solely because they're easy to remember. If there's a length more preferable to you, let me know).

Also, in keeping with our semi-formal "information pact", I wish to inform you that I have heard precisely nothing from Serdoa regarding any hostile intentions toward you. Or anything about you at all. Or almost anything else, really. He's been frustratingly difficult to reach lately. I assume you're likewise heard nothing from the Clan?

One last note- unless you have suddenly decided to go significantly out of your way to attack me or Tredje or Iskender, I assume you'll be declaring on Serdoa shortly. If you take him out (and honestly, if you're going to rush him with the kind of overwhelming forces you're building, I would suggest you do so if you have the opportunity) I suppose we'll need to have some border discussions of our own. But I think that those can wait for a while wink
