Not sure if that's a good way to go, Tatan... I'll have to read some more about EE... I think we'll just have to try and stay competitive... being financial should help with that.
Fairly easy turn for us, though a lot seems to be happening around the board.
Decided to let our scouting warrior heal a bit before moving forward. Chariot is moving towards Sunrise.
IW will be done next turn and we'll move to Sailing then.

We have double-speed courthouses, so it would be relatively simple to flood Sunrise with EP points and then piggyback off his excellent economy via tech stealing. Doesn't sound like a great strategy, but honestly given the alternatives I think it would be fun. Thoughts?
Was hoping someone would try this. Though I suppose AW makes it a bit less efficient.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

So, where is our Iron, dear lurkers?
Oh, wait... that must be Sunrise's Iron... where is our Iron then?
Oh... no... think that's Mali's Iron... being so close to their borders....
But... uhm... where is our Iron then? Are we really Rome with no Iron?
There might be Iron out here:
Well... we wanted a challenge, but this... don't know what to say about this. I'll leave it to the lurkers and other players to read about our situation once the game ends.
At least we won't be bottom two...
Research set to sailing. Guess we'll settle the copper site with our next settler and scout the island to see if we can escape there...

Well, that figures. I guess we WILL want to settle that copper spot then. Exploring that island is now of tantamount importance--it seems a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

Even if espionage is not the main focus, I figure that we will want to be putting up cheap courthouses everywhere anyway, which will give us a lot of EPs to play around with. May as well try to turn it into tech.

Since we are going to settle that island, we might want to consider The Great Lighthouse again... Serdoa?

Copper next for sure. EE-economy probably not, I don't think that'll work in AW as I think you have to pay more EP if you are at war and we also pretty likely can't use the bonus for religion either I think. So conversion rates EP to beakers are probably somewhere near 1 to 1 and then we can tech as well on our own. Of course that doesn't mean that we can't use the EPs we get anyway. Do we focus them on someone already? If not I'd suggest focus them on sunrise.
As for GLH: We still have 5 forests available so thats 100 hammers right? With some whip overflow we probably should be able to finish GLH pretty quickly. Won't be the best thing in the world, but uh, do we have anything else worthwhile to build anyway? Certainly not Praets
Lastly, I would of course still like to couple GLH with Colossus, but I don't feel we are anywhere near talking about that when I look at the tech-rate right now. So, yeah, I think best way is get that settler to the copper, explore the island, get another settler for it and tech Sailing in the meantime. Build/whip a lighthouse and use the overflow + chops for GLH. And pray that the island is better then our immediate surrounding land because otherwise that will be a pretty unfun game :/
As an aside: Have I stated already that I think that this start should have lead to a reroll of the map as it is no different to a start directly in a tundra region imo.

Against Egypt and Mali? We'd only succeed in taking several black eyes.

You've sold me. That island is big enough to support multiple cities for more overseas trade routes, and between this land devaluing settlers and a lack of iron blocking praets the GLH will actually hardly stunt our growth at all.

Now that you mention, I think AW might indeed screw with EPs; if so, that's disappointing. I'll try to run some tests if I have time later.
And we have only officially met Sunrise so far, so all EPs have been going towards him.

Ok, that settles our plan for the near future then. Tech Sailing - Masonry, build lighthouse and TGL in Nero after the Settler. Let Ceasar build more units.
We might want to cancel the chop that's happening at Nero and mine the hils for better production options.
