Why not the good spot? We'll let Team Gilette get it?

Ah, yeah, forgot that this game has diplomacy... That'll be 100 pages of discussion right there. lol

I say we just tech archery and settle that spot.

I bet there's a similarly good contested site between each pair of players. So I'm in favour of taking this one without any negotiated concessions whatsoever if we don't find better.

We picked the strongest early expansion setup, let's use our advantages and not shoot ourselves in the foot by negotiating them away.

I think we should take the best site as well, but I have bad memories of aggressive second city plants in a pitboss game smile.

8 tiles back to our capital will make it difficult to defend. I'd rather we find another nice spot elsewhere with less pointy sticks. But if not, we can contest it for sure.

Yum, prime real estate contested, but up for grabs. Good for us.

Yeah, stopping to think about it, this is one of the best possible situations for us. Not taking that site would be not using our trait and civ advantages.

So I think our initial micro plan should regard how best to get this city and have it defended in little time.

Thoughts?

I'd like to propose a more conservative plan of action:

It's a non-provocative site that still claims the gold and two food resources, and sits on a nice plains hill.

We've got all the ingredients for a classic dogpile here: full diplo, full C&D, Sury of India, explosive opening. I'd rather not exacerbate the situation by settling in the face of our scariest opponent.

Also, yay rivers.

Only major problem is eating 3 tiles of mountains. But who really ever uses all their tiles, right?

The conservative © & provocative sites aren't mutually exclusive, can we plan to get both, with only settling C being the graceful "aren't we nice to you" fallback if we need to for diplo purposes? smile There's danger in over-reaching ourselves, but there's danger in never reaching as far as we can ...

(4 mountain tiles in the BFC of C </pedant> lol)

Darrell or whoever plays the next turn - could you do me a favour & grab a couple of screenies for a T10 report in the index: a zoomed out overview of our exploration (with resource bubbles on & with enough on the west that I can mark the Gillette capital in the fog) and a shot of the inside of the capital. Thanks smile

Where's our scout going? We need to know he lay of the land in all directions before we start pink-dotting.

Gillette will know when we settle the aggressive dot because its forest will disappear.
I have to run.
