I would prefer random picks with reroll to snake pick, though I don't feel strongly either way. I would also prefer that we get to see our starting locations before doing picks if possible, even though with the reduced early tech costs starting techs are less important.
Also leaning towards 3.0.0.1 because I like some things in the changelog.

I'm still here, even though I'll probably regret it in a month or two (if the game has started by then--how long did it take PB18 to start from signups finalized to T0 rolling again?)

I agree with both these points, but more specifically the first one. But for me, the reason is because I personally don't enjoy trying to think up which combination of leader & civ I'd want to play or what combination would be the best for a certain start or stuff like that. I'd rather see a random roll, and simply decide if I'm ok with it or not.
Personally, I'd even be ok with random picks without a reroll. But I know 99% of you don't like that.

I prefer random picks with reroll. Don't mind other ways to pick, though I think snake pick will be too tedious. If someone conjure an easy to understand pick method where some people choose their civ/leaders, some don't, I'm also okay being on the non-chooser pool.
And retep agrees with me because I say he should.

Let players either say they want random, or they get to choose one civ or leader that they really want (other one is randomized). Any conflicts roll for who gets their choice, and then those who lose get to choose again from what's left.
Something like that?

How about allowing duplicate leaders/civs? Everyone picks whichever leader & civ they want.

Random. I'd be fine even without rerolling. Normalization means no shot needed.

I'd prefer duplicate leader/civs ...
with a *barely visible* preference that the only thing *not* duplicated is specific leader/civ combos (but having those duplicated is fine too idc really) -> I'm all for duplicate everthang ... especially since this is going to be a rather large game.
Could potentially alter starting locations so that similar combos aren't close to each other, but that doesn't rly matter either.
I think it would be nice if those that want to pick can pick (or even join a medium sized snake pick), while those that want random can roll random, with or without re-rolls. The rolls don't even have to worry about duplication, either.
Imho the differences between Players is more important/ more interesting than the differences between the leader traits/ civs ... and that, if the point of non-duplication is to just focus on the strengths of the combos, then we might as well use an AI survival game. Or else only pick people of equal skill.
I'll play with random of course, but I would prefer to allow for people to pick their combos. (especially if it *doesn't matter* due to balance)

I like this idea too. You can either roll/ reroll (completely random) or you can pick your Leader (or Civ) and then roll for the other.
