[PB59] Charriu welcomes all the townfolk

T105:

As expected I was able to settle the fur island uncontested. The newest town is called Fireburg, which is taken from the game 'Mystic Quest' for our lovely American audience 'Final Fantasy Mystic Quest'. Oh and I know what you want to say. Buh, that game is crap. I am familiar with all the hate the game gets, but for me this is a special game. As a European we didn't get that many JRPGs, so you had to love what you get. But that's not why this game is special for me. This is actually one of my first JRPGs I ever played. But I wanted to talk about the town.
The first thing I wanted to mention is the music, which even for the whole game, is surprisingly good:

Then there is the unique art style of the town, which I never saw again in any other game. Add in some tiny cool details like that the town is located at a volcano and has a band performing in the local INN and you have the receipe for a great town.

In game related news, GKC declared war on Lazteuq. My peace offer last turn was well timed I have to admit. crazyeye I also forgot to mention that I got another random spread of Hinduism to Figaro, which is just the city that needs a culture pop to bring in another copper resource and the sheep, great. goodjob

While I'm talking about religion here are some minor statistics:

Hinduism spread to own cities: 8 (don't forget that it spread to Nobilia before it was razed)
Spread via missionary: 1
Random spreads: 7

I have to say those random spreads worked out perfectly so far. I think a shrine in Crysta will be a great economic boost.

Quiet a few things happened. Lazteuq did loose a city to GKC, most likely being razed. You can see that in the drop of his crop yield. Don't forget that he's still in Serfdom, so he can't have whipped away pop. He also removed all of his units from our border city as you can see in the top right of the screenshot. The cherry on top is that Ramk also entered the war against Lazteuq last turn. Maybe he's trying to nab some Lazteuq cities in the inner sea? But could also just be a workboat moving through, but then again I think they had an open border agreement. We will surely find out at some point.

Mjmd accepted open borders and is currently exploring my territory with a chariot. I will return that favor with a chariot of my own. In lucky RNG news I got another random spread of Hinduism, this time to New Nobilia. But hold your horses, Ramk also converted Hinduism. eek  Does that mean he has more Hinduism cities then Buddhism, which he founded. That's huge. The shrine looks more and more promising. Now only I only need the right Great Person to spawn. Lastly you can see that I will finish Monarchy this turn and I have a settler ready to settle next turn.

Monarchy is in, but civic switching needs to wait at least until T110, so that any overflow can flow into some buildings with the bonus from OR.

I also build a new city: Matango. This is from Secret of Mana (SNES). Why is it a great town? It's a town of living mushrooms! I rest my case.

You know I love my lurkers. I actually travelled all around the world only to bring you the newest news between in the Ichabod vs Frozen conflict. Looks like Frozen will get a new island soon. Must be a massive undertaking this early in the game to move so many units by boat.

In other international news, the war between GKC and Lazteuq sadly already ended.

Next turn is a big moment. Will I get the 70% odds Prophet of my dreams or will I bulb Currency with an uninteresting Merchant.

Success!!!

I got the Great Prophet and will build the shrine next turn. jive

This turn I switched civics:

Despotism->Hereditary Rule
Slavery->Serfdom
Organized Religion->Paganism

Interestingly enough switching into Paganism does not generate a message like the others do. contemplate

The immediate effect of all these switches is an economic boost. Here the F2 screen before I switched:

and after the switch:

In numbers:
+8 in civic upkeep (Paganism was important here)
+1 in inflation
+6 from extra commerce for farms
=
+15 extra gold this turn smoke

Now of course there is the danger of being attacked in the next 10 turns, but right now I still have 4 turns of peace with Lazteuq, to whom I am equal in power. Ramk just send me a fish for fish last turn. And Mjmd accepted my open borders recently and I assume will stay peaceful for the upcoming turns. In these 10 turns I plan to mainly build units, because I have no important buildings in any major cities to build and I want to get up towards Mjmd's levels in power, just for safety. The small cities don't benefit from the OR bonus anyway, either because of lack of religion or because they don't make enough hammers.

I also turned on research. With the gold from the shrine I do expect to finish it in 2 turns thanks to KTB from 9 people again.

21 gold and 8 of those are from my own cities. Hinduism spread quiet well and I also know why now. Aparently Ramk didn't found Buddhism, Superdeath did. Well that explains why Ramk switched to Hinduism. I think it's only fair that I'm now compensated for founding a religion for our continent, do you agree my dear neighbors. mischief

I think it's time for some longterm planning again. This time where to build my National Wonders, which is one of my benefits as IND. For this purpose I reconfigured some of my cities. So it's worth iterating across my main cities and what purpose they will serve.

Clock Town = Sience City and Great Persons. With being my capitol I get do want to cottage it heavily. It also has enough food resources and the Temple of Artemis, so that it can serve as an Great Person city. Therefore I will plant National Epic and Oxford University here. This also a potential city for a culture victory.
Crysta = As the holy city of Hinduism it will produce lots of gold on this map. Therefore it gets Wall Street. Now Wall Street might generate more gold on a per turn basis in a dedicated commerce city later on, but the advantage of Crysta is that it generates gold every turn no matter what the slider is set to. Although this city is vulnerable to sea attacks it is a great option for a culture city in a culture victory setting.
Amn = Hybrid production and commerce city. Mainly because of the gold and the watermill friendly river. As of now this good be a good third culture city, because it already is in third place for culture and is inland. If it turns out to be a culture city it will get Hermitage.
New Nobilia = With 3 food resources in reach I figured this might be a great city for Globe Theatre. Right now it will use the lumbermills around it to get all the necessary buildings up until Globe Theatre is done. Later on it will also get Red Cross, because the Medic promotion will be applied to drafted units. Although thanks to Globe Theatre it might also become a potential culture city. We will see.
Township = With its 4 floodplains and the gems tile it is bound to be a secondary commerce city. No national wonders planned so far. Because of inland position also a safe candidate for a culture city.
Freeja = Heavy production with enough hills, food resources and stone. It will get Iron Works eventually.
Old Camp = Coastal production city for the inland sea.
Figaro = Coastal production city for the outer sea. With water being very important later on it will be necessary to have good production cities at the outer sea. Therefore I reconfigured this city to be a production city. It has the copper and 3 hills in its BFC, but in addition it can use the forests around it for additional production with lumbermills. I plan to settle Heroic Epic and Westpoint here for my naval supremacy.
Fireburg = Happy fishing village.
Matango = Happy fishing village
Iron Island south of Capitol = Lower production city thanks to the iron. Might get workshops for additional production later on
Moai city west of Amn = The answer is in the name.

This plan leaves some wonders namely:

Forbidden Palace: Will get dropped in a central on my continent to maximize reduction
Mt. Rushmore: Doesn't matter where it goes
National Parc: Will be interesting to see, where I plant it. Maybe a city in the heavily jungled isthmuses? We'll there where this will fit in.

A new turn, a new city. Parcelyte is the more or less main town of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals (SNES). The town itself isn't actually that amazing, rather it's the story and the things that are happening in the town across the game. I don't want to spoil too much of an old game.

As you can see Ramk settled the island in the south, which is clearly in his hemisphere. I also got two iron resources. One as expected on the island. The other is 1W of Matango on a river. So with just a mine it is connected. As you can see I started researching Machinery. Reasons for it are:
  • Unlocking a new better unit (crossbowman)
  • A tiny commerce boost with the lumbermills
  • More stuff to build for my army of workers (5)
After that I will go for Theology, so that the next prophet can bulb Divine Right. The goal of course is to go for the Apostolic Palace and Spiral Minaret. With those two in the book I will go for Guilds for the obvious stuff.

And speaking of workers. Yes, you read correctly I only have 5 workers for my now 11 cities. Serfdom is of course helping in safing some worker turns and working some lighthouse-charged coast tiles also helps as well as working some specialists. I'm building another worker up in Township, but so far every city is working improved tiles with some exceptions for the newer smaller cities, which want to whip those pops anyway in a few turns.
