Ok I've finished my turnset but it's well past my bed time so I'll post the report in the morning. I accidentally hit enter on my last turn so the save is from the beginning of the next person's set, apologies there!

Alright seifer!

Just one more turn of bombardment (curse those walls) and the onslaught can begin in earnest!

Sure was nice of Willem to build some wonders for us.

Good luck twinkletoes.

Lol I couldn't help myself and seen as its war I've done my 20 turns! I won't upload the save or update yet to give seifer time to report his set!

I shan't give any info for now except that we have met a new civ!

Haha, appreciated!

Pre-turn - I decided to put Plain Silly's chop into a market since it has all those beautiful flood plain cottages and we didn't need a new city just yet, what with the barb city coming out of revolt real soon as well. Speaking of Numidian I swapped it to work a granary rather than the monument placeholder.

At this stage we had 10 hwachas, 2 war elephants, 1 horse archer and a couple of swords. We definitely needed quite a few more units to take those Dutch cities. Most of my turn will consist of building these units.

I made this tech deal with Willem and swapped research into Civil Service since I'm such a Bureaucracy fan.

T225 - I brought our northern scouts back 1 tile into our borders since they aren't really doing much standing in jungle except costing us extra maintenance.

T226 - Hit enter.

T227 - Willem completed the Great Library. He is being a bit of a wonder/religion hog but hopefully we'll get most of those from him when we pounce. He didn't get the Mausoleum however, that was BIAFAL.

T228 - I let Copper Central complete the courthouse since it will save us 2-3 commerce per turn and that's nothing to sneeze at really. I next get it to build that missionary for Numidian. Some WEs finish this turn and more are queued up. A Great Prophet was BIAFAL.

T229 - Willem completed Engineering this turn and would next go for Philosophy (another religion eh?). We busted a Dutch spy near Sealed Pigs and Numidian came out of revolt this turn.

T230 - We finished CS this turn so I revolt into Bureaucracy. I decided to go after Machinery next for a bit of variety in worker improvement and then we can also build macemen if we're struggling with those cities. The corn near our capital is now irrigated although I'm not sure how we will irrigate the wheat down near Border Control. Currently there are villages blocking the way. Perhaps after we take those Dutch cities we can spread it across?

T231 - Out of anarchy.

T232 - More WEs finish up and I start mixing some HAs in now.

T233 - I decided to declare war on T238 (thought it would give me just enough turns to conquer Amsterdam) so I moved the eastern spy we have in Willem's land to his iron resource.

T234 - CC celebrates "We love the Monarch Day". The two barb galleys down south finally split up and I move our trireme towards the closest one. Plain Silly was about to go over it's healthy cap so I whip the market here.

T235 - Our spy near The Hague was stumbled upon this turn, hopefully the one on the iron will last until our declaration. CC finished the missionary for the barb city and I set it on a forge next, Plain Silly too. A Great Engineer was BIAFAL.

T236 - Willem completed the Apostolic Palace (Buddhism) and A Great General was BIAFAL. Looks like other Civs may be fighting. I spread Confucianism into Numidian this turn, that border pop can't come soon enough. We captured the city at size 5 so it needs those extra tiles to work.

T237 - Willem finishes Philosophy and then goes towards CS. Utrecht becomes the holy city for Taoism (the holy city for 3 religions now). We discover Machinery and next I head towards Feudalism. The longbows will be great for defense if need be, but this will open up Guilds for knights and grocers. In the AP election I abstain while Justinian votes for Willem and he wins convincingly. Numidian completes it's granary and starts on a forge.

T238 - We are officially at war with Willem now. Our spy had a 87% chance of pillaging the iron and did. Here's our force moving in:

We have 10 hwachas, 8 WEs, 2 (+3 soon) HAs, 2 swords, 3 axes and a chariot. I don't know if this would be enough but we have more HAs coming regardless. I also whipped a market in Silver Dreams this turn and the forge in CC.

T239 - CC starts on a market next and our capital on a forge, BC on a maceman and SD on a library. Another Great General is BIAFAL so that war elsewhere must be coming along nicely.

T240 - Willem decided to suicide one of his longbows on a trailing HA with our unit taking minimal damage. Also the first barb galley attacks our trireme and loses without inflicting any damage at all!

T241 -

We cop a bit of luck and some gold spawns near BC, on a tundra hill too! jive

T242 - The bombardment of Amsterdam starts this turn. I was a bit surprised that each Hwacha was only doing 2% damage each hit (with 100% to get through). I knew walls would reduce the usual 8% by half but we were being quartered... I had planned my turnset around taking the Dutch capital on my last turn but now it looks like TT will get that pleasure. alright

PS went into unhealthy this turn but I was able to trade bananas with Justinian for a spare pigs.

T243 - We receive a message notifying us that Korea now holds 5 million seouls.

T244 - A spy was stumbled upon at BC. IT completes it's forge and I decide to build a 2t monastery for a nice 10bpt at 100% science. PS now celebrates "WLTMD" while a Great Scientist is BIAFAL. Justinian adopts Vassalage this turn as well.

T245 - We complete Feudalism and TT can choose what to research next. I left it on Compass which is the pre-req for Optics for whales and caravels to start meeting other Civs. I noticed Willem was able to re-mine his iron (although no iron-related units have been built by him yet) as I moved our spy back there, but unfortunately it was busted this turn.

In the end I got Amsterdam down to 20% cultural defense. Another turn will get it to zero and a further turn allows for some collateral damage to be done. Oh how I wanted to play just a couple more turns...

Here's the demographics at the end of my turnset:

As you can see we are smashing it, practically first in everything. After we clean up the Dutch we may be able to win the game with the land we have. Although I would feel sorry for the other players that didn't get a taste of the warfare so I'm all up for taking Justinian next after we've re-organised and re-evaluated our position. Thanks for reading.

Overview pictures

I thought I would get us some nice pictures to sum up our position:

First, our empire from above!

The Heartland

The area formerly known as the Netherlands (and the new city of Stop Wining!

Looking lovely I must say! Stop Wining is maturing quite nicely without a food resource thanks to the amount of free workers I had hanging around in my set with nothing to do! Also, I think we can build HE now.

Willem's Wondeful Wonders!

The Oracle, The Great Library, The Apostolic Palace and two shrines!

Demographics

Soldier count took a noticeable hit with the war with Willem, but everything else looks fantasmagorical!

Tech Situation

Not too shabby!

General Thoughts & Pointers

Right well first off the war went better and quicker than I expected given the wall strength of Utrecht. Spy saved the day for me.

The Great General has not been used yet. I have an explorer completed out of Border Control which could be used as a super medic, or we could settle it for the XP bonus.

Expansion wise, I settled Stop Wining to give our workers something to do and so we can work the two 2f,5c Wine resources so it would pay for itself. It has a Granary & a Lighthouse already and has plenty of farmland to keep it growing as quick as it can. We probably can place some river plains cottages to make more commerce with the food surplus. Either that or keep farming and just use it to whip stuff.

I have sent much of the surviving Willem stack to head towards Ivory Towers as we need to keep our Justinian border secure now. Especially as he will have Cataphracts pretty soon. He is a solid ally however, so maybe I'm just being over-cautious.

With the Great General being born in a distant land, we have some warring going on between the civs we haven't met. We have 3 caravels out now (2 going E & one going W) so I am hopeful we should meet the others soon. Hopefully they will be happier to trade than good ol'Toku!

Also, we will get a GP out of Amsterdam next turn, looking likely it will be a Scientist (which would be lovely!)

Good job TT. I was just wondering if you managed to hook up the incense northeast of our capital?

Being first in just about every category of the demographics I think we can say victory is almost inevitable. So we should discuss how we want to win the game next. Maybe domination, or we could add a twist? E.g. Civ5 style where we take all the capitals.

The reason why the bombard went so slowly was due to castles. Castles really add protection to the city, taking only 2% out of 100% per bombard. Given that it's Williem he would have engineering and probably whipped Castles the minute the horn sounded for him. (Not to mention he had stone for a while).

Oh hey... it's my turn.

I'll play in about 12 hours.

Thoughts on where to go from here? If not I'll just work on screwing things up enough so there's still plenty of excitement for the rest of the game. wink
