Definitely been awhile since I updated. Not very like me, I know.

The Gaspadore / Sian war is ... not going well for Sian. With the capture of Sian's second city, I now border Gaspadore. As such, I thought it was a good idea to drop them a note.

Quote:Well howdy hidy-ho neigbhoroonies!

With your successful capture of Sherman's / Da Lagoon, it seems like, as we talked about a few days ago, we are indeed neighbors.

So I thought it would be useful to talk about your aims for this war and how you and us can continue to have good relations. I know that early on you had mentioned that there was no need for us to have a NAP given that we were all the way on the other side of the world but of course that has changed since then. I also know that you are somewhat averse to the concept of NAPs and I'm okay with that.

I do currently have an active NAP with Sian so that would probably prevent me from aiding you (not that you seem to really be needing any!!). I guess I have no current agreements that would stop me from joining the war on Sian's side, but that doesn't really seem to be a good idea, and as you have probably guessed, most of our army is defensive in nature (i.e. longbows)

Anyway I just wanted to drop you a line to open up the conversation on what ways we can cooperate. We are always looking for cooperation with other powers, as I'm sure you are also. I'm sure we can catch up on chat sometime

Really if I can just manage to secure BC (and the island to its southeast), neither of which seem like it would be hard to get them to agree to, I think I'm fine with letting them have the rest of Sian's carcass. Anything in terms of islands that would have been in Sian's sphere of influence that I can grab would just be a bonus

One more thing. As global lurkers probably already know, each of us appear to have a "treasure" island directly on the opposite side of the world from our starting position (in the N-S line)

I know Pindicator is shortly settling his (which has gold). I'm on my way to settle mine (which has gems), but I'm also going to settle Sian's (which shaftily enough has spices) next turn.

Sian's in the NE of the pic, mine to the SW. There's a couple of other pretty juicy islands between them as well, that I'm heading for.

It's been a while since I even checked on this game. I didn't even know there was a war on.

I'll be whipping my 7th courthouse next turn, which would make me eligible for the Forbidden Palace. Ideally I'd want to put it on my treasure island (which would max out the savings, but I'll need to figure out if there are cost savings to getting it up sooner rather than waiting for the "perfect" spot (there usually are)

Yup. Gaspadore declared I want to say 5 turns ago. I guess Sian held out for awhile as there were no city changes for the first 3 turns of the war. Then last turn, I guess Gaspadore got lucky with a few combat rolls and took the city of Pedro, which apparently held all of Sian's galleys (Because he thought it was safe). This turn he took another city as you can see, and I'd imagine it won't be too much longer.

Sian has 5 cities left - probably 3 on his mainland, BC which you can see, and another one off in the fog somwehere

Tech-wise you can see I'm on the way to Civil Service, which should be done in 2 turns. At that point, I'll revolt to Bureaucracy, and possibly to Caste System (the latter for only 5 turns). I'd like my next GP to be a scientist, either for an Academy in the capital, or for a possible Philosophy bulb.

Here's another thought for the peanut gallery (e.g. mostly Cyneheard). For my treasure island city (gems island), do I settle on the plains hill, or the grass forest. I know conventional wisdom would say plains hill (which is also on the river), but I was just trying to get in some more production (by working the 0/4/1 PH) on a very production-light map.

I guess it would take a lot of turns working the (rather inefficient) PHM to make up for the 20h from the forest + the 2 hammer plant

PH is definitely the way to settle. Two food plus one hammer is essentially equal to four hammers, and the eternal PH bonus plus the forest hammers more than makes up for the lost mine. Heck, the grass tile feeds an Eng if needed.

And dont forgot about workshops.

Permisson to thread-spam? Thanks.

Think you mean "i.e." not "e.g.".
