FTL - Faster Than Light

Yup, a massive invasion is easy to repel once you learn medbay and venting tactics.

The game is exceedingly well balanced. There's a knife edge between success and failure, and a learning curve to get on the right side of it. It takes time and thought and learning. But once you do, I'd estimate that no more than 10% of games run you into an unwinnable situation.

And yes, you need to stay in each sector as long as possible for more loot before moving on.

I'd argue against that, there's not much you can do if you your opponent starts a failcascade by breaking your shields with a missile and then steadily working down your weapons. Or an event invasion + an enemy ship, forcing your pilot off so you lose all your %dodge and end up vulnerable to those very missiles. I agree with the knife edge thing, but it's very very easy to end up on the wrong side of it.

Yeah, that's the 10%. Nearly the topmost priority every game is to get a missile defense drone ASAP. Soon as you get that, missiles are little threat. It'll usually show up by the end of sector 2 in my experience. There's an Engi ship (easy to unlock IIRC) that starts with at least a drone system and maybe the defense drone itself? That's how I got my first win. Supply of drone parts is a concern, but be smart and look at the enemy ship and only deploy the defense drones if it's got a missile launcher.

The basilisk also starts with one...basically dodge automated drones with that thing and you are good to go.

Still prefer the (zoltan?) ship with the 5 hit invuln shield not only stops missles but teleports as well, and by the time the charges on that are down you are normally in control of the situation

At only 20 scrap level 2 doors are usually a good investment sometime in sector 2 or 3.

"FTL - Advanced Edition" has been released as a free upgrade:

Quote:FTL: AE is free expansion to FTL which includes a new alien race along with new events, weapons, playable ships, drones, and more! It also adds additional musical tracks by Ben Prunty, and events by Tom Jubert and guest writer Chris Avellone.

If you own FTL on Steam it should automatically update the game to the newest version, v1.5.4. If you instead own a DRM-Free version of FTL, you need to re-download the game from the original location and then re-install it. The following link has more information about updating DRM-Free versions - Update Instructions [www.ftlgame.com]

Additionally, FTL has also been released on iPad! It is the complete game (same as PC) and includes the new AE content. It costs $10 in the US Store and is available on the App Store worldwide. Note: FTL purchases on computer cannot be transferred or redeemed on iPad.

I reinstalled and played one game already smile I kinda suck at this game, 19 hours playtime without beating the boss at normal.

Switched to easy difficulty a few days ago and finally beat the end boss! I really did not expect this ship to have what it takes, I was only intending to get the achievements for layout B, and I hadn't had any luck with drops this run. Nearly died in the aftermath of the second phase, with oxygen completely drained out of my ship and my three remaining crew members sitting in the med bay. They JUST managed to repair the oxygen and survive.
