Yeah, Nicolae attacked the city with his healthiest War Chariot at 80% odds and lost. He then moved his other War Chariot to the sheep, but I had 33% odds on it with a warrior so I killed it losing one warrior in the process. Which means the situation down south is this:
Nicolae has one full-health War Chariot, but I have 5 warriors. And the power graph doesn't show any reinforcements on their way.
This fortuitous turn of events allowed me to settle Backrush as a decent city instead of a desperation move on the copper:
On t40 I can road the copper, unless Nicolae attacks with his warrior and takes very little damage. If he does that I'll finish the warrior in Backrush and I should be able to safely road the copper on t41, so I think that will be okay. It would mean Nicolae could pillage the sheep down south, but crucially he needs to pillage the sheep pasture before he can pillage the road underneath it.
If Nicolae moves NE with his warrior to pillage the road between Backrush and Sandcastle, that's ok, as the trade connection works without a road thanks to the river. So if he does that I'll just build an axe to deal with it. I'll probably 2-whip an axe out of Sandcastle regardless, and overflow to a spear or a granary.
Demographics show that I'm not totally out of this yet, my GNP sucks but that's partially because I'm first to 4 cities. Seven has set up a very sound economy though, and Serdoa has Stonehenge and cheap forges already. But at least I'm still relevant.
Oh and we're still 20EPs shy of getting Mackoti's graphs. I had to put more EPs on Nicolae this turn to keep his graphs.
I have to run.
