Quick update on some things that should have a full update for.. Shallow declared war on Elkad, im guessing fishing for a peace treaty since no cities changed hands, and i saw no troop movement. Elkad however, has moved most of his stack back a peg.. maybe he will accept a peace treaty and finish Charriu off? I wouldnt mind that, but of course, id rather they fought each other. I finished Education, started on liberalism to see how long at 100% it would take, 5 turns.. not bad. Used my last GS to bulb 80% of Printing Press, so i switched to that, and figure i can roughly 5-6 turn liberalism whenever for either Rifling or economics. I dont have to worry about anyone other than Shallow heading for liberalism as Elkad just got gunpowder, and is 4-5 techs from liberalism atm. I decided to move my main stack closer to Elkad just in case, and moved all my cuirs into position to t0 his border city, and turn 1-2 of the war, take his capital. Still building mostly troops as im doubtful ill get a better return on universities vs power graph right now. I am however... having my HE build west point instead of roughly 7 cuirs, because why not have 17 exp mounted out of the gate? Im assuming Shallow is gonna pop a golden age soon due to having at least 2 GP around that i could see. Magic has galleons poking around, but im hopeful that he will stay friendly vs being eliminated in his first game if he really temps me to tech astro.
I can finish PP in two turns, 1 at 100% and the other at roughly 20%, and ill save gold for a couple turns and choose the tech path from there.. Either Economics right away for some $, Liberalism if Shallow heads there, or just keep going down the rifles route for better eco/production. If Elkad waits too long ill be running him over with Cavs.. even though Cuirs will do plenty vs his non-slavery, warriors/archers and SOME longbows defenses. I think he stripped basically everything for his potential attack on Shallow.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

Saving gold for 3 turns, while 2 libraries, and the capitals university finishes. Ill have oxford being built in 5/6 turns, and should be finished by like.. 12 turns from now? ill have to check next time i login. Saving gold while "teching" liberalism. Finished PP, and ill be heading down RP once i save up the gold its looking to be a 5-6 turn tech. So roughly 1400 gold to finish at current tech rate. Im mostly curious if Shallow uses his GA to catch back up in military techs, or grabs democracy for Statue of Liberty? If i had a GE pop, id head there but that wonder is expensive. Besides, I need to continue to build cats/cuirs to keep Shallow from getting ideas, and hopefully enough extra to run into Elkad before he gets access to rifles.
Elkad is currently outside of Charriu's city, and will either take it EOT or next turn. Either way is great for me, it might be a good city.. one that i will take eventually But too many pikemen for me to wanna smash it. Elkad's army on the other hand.. has alot of praets. And not much else, like 12 knights? If i wasnt worried about a Shallow attack on my core, i would position myself to hit it. Current plan is to finish universities and then keep churning out cuirs/cats. Leaving behind a sizeable knight stack + cats, and sending all the cuirs i can produce in the next 15 turns at elkad. Ill have crippled him by taking at least 3-4 cities by turn 3 of the war including his cap, that i think he wont have much production left to build a counter force.

Charriu just got taken out by Elkad as i was playing. I didnt want to attempt to move anything to slam into his not-very-damaged stack, 1. because he was online and that might cause issues. 2. because I really want Elkad to have a military presence on Shallow's border. IF when their peace treaty runs out i see troop movement elsewhere, i might start moving my stacks into the KillElkad.exe formation. His stack doesnt have that many pikes HOWEVER he built alot of muskets recently as they have been popping up everywhere. Thats not good, but not as bad as it might sound, they could be heading over to Shallow. Worst case scenario being Elkad moves into suicide positioning vs me. Bad scenario being he moves towards Shallow, but moves all of his actual defenders to our border.
He just moved his scout in a line that sees most of my current army so im hopeful he sees it as a buildup between myself and Shallow and not a far-staging stack for him. My cap's university finishes EOT, along with two of Charriu's cities libraries so i will be turning on research and burning thru as much of something depending on what Shallow techs after Constitution. Ill write more next turn, gotta get going to another christmas, if you have any questions feel free to post below!

Logged in to pause for Magic, and noticed a couple things. 1, Shallow is teching Education in 11 turns currently. WHILE saving 500+ gold.. Im assuming there will be a big push to force me to grab lib early... fair enough but i really wish they wouldnt do that :P Also noticed that Elkad planted a filler city of.... really meh quality north of Liquid flame/Lighthouse. Im expecting Shallow to end up 2-3 turning Education starting next turn, which is going to force me to at least tech liberalism to 1turnable territory. If they continue to liberalism ( im very doubtful they could swing it in one turn ) ill have to finish it and take the free GMerchant from economics. IMO, while this is a smart route for them to take by forcing me to take a lesser prize, im curious if grabbing Economics wouldnt have been the better choice? GM to fund further research to catch up in military? Oh well.

Will do a full update once the next turn rolls, however Shallow did indeed force me to start to finish liberalism. He is finishing education EOT, and ill finish Liberalism in two turns, so unless he can 1 turn 3100 beakers ( that would be impressive ) ill still get my economics merchant. Which i can then use for teching/upgrades.

Ive got Liberalism finishing EOT, however if Shallow plays and i can login before the turn rolls im going to check if he is 1 turning/2turning liberalism. If he isnt, i might risk it for the biscuit and swap to JUST barely missing liberalism. for maximum overflow into Replaceable Parts. Going to take Economics for the free tech, and use the GMerchant gold for teching to rifles. Hopefully with some leftover gold to upgrade some units to cavs. Planning an assault on Elkad once i have cavalry of significant number. Considering Elkad wont be at rifles for.... a long time ( im going to guess 25 turns or better ) and Shallow still missing Military Tradition and Gunpowder... i think a quick run to Rifles will secure the Shallow front, as i will be putting 5+ rifles in each border city with a force of cats + other crap to slaughter any kind of incoming army.. and ill send every cuir/cav into Elkad territory and judging from my limited simming ( most of it in my head ) ive concluded i can capture 4-5 cities before his main stack could counter. Those cities including his capital, and hopefully his Buddhist shrine.
Speaking of Elkad, he appears to be literally moving everything but 1-2 defenders all to the Shallow border. Does he have a border dispute he really wants to take care of? Does he believe that Shallow is currently winning? ( i think its roughly tied, due to Shallows power edge, vs my gnp edge ) I have no idea, but it will make me really happy if he declares war on Shallow. Shallow using his slightly higher power rating, has split up his knight/cat stacks to cover both Elkad and myself. Judging from what i can see ( which is most of his army ) he has it split roughly even, with slightly more cats on my border, and slightly more knights on the Elkad border. Nice. Ive recently begun to notice a very bad potential situation, if Shallow knew/knows that Deadpool is my HE city, he could take it out turn 0 of a war as it currently stands being defended by 4-5 units. Once the BUILD MORE RESEARCH shit is over, i will be fixing this problem with several additional garrison units.
If i dont get an easy opportunity to race through Elkad land, i will be eventually teching Astro to grab the southern islands + knock Magic out. I want to do it with lots of overflow so that Magic doesnt have much time to prepare for alot of galleons. I dont expect to need to go down this road as either Elkad will attack Shallow which will give me a nice opening to attack, or shallow will fall behind in tech enough that rifles/infantry can defend nicely against anything he could throw at me while i.... eat Elkad. The absolute worse thing besides a dogpile on myself, would be Elkad war-peacing me, then Shallow having 10 turns of Elkad eating while i think about how badly i want to go smash knights into cats.
Thanos has been a great city, and i really need to push some culture into the city so it can work the other towns/cottages ect that it needs to really be a powerhouse. Charriu obviously made his capital commerce based vs a mix of production/commerce or just a straight military pump. Considering its pumping out more beakers than any other city but my cap, id say its doing quite well. Once Hawkeye gets the crab hooked up it will be a nice military pump as welll, thanks Charriu for the settled GG in there!

Don't read too much into it. I looked back at the tech thread and I think I just had a bad day or was just eagerly awaiting the turn. Nothing personal, although it sometimes hurt reading about me in your threads.

You can't know about it, because I only wrote it in my thread, but I'm also looking into mapmaking. I wanted to start a thread about it in the next weeks and hope that this could develop into a nice tutorial section about mapmaking. Hope too see you there.

Got crab-crab with Shallow, and a crab-crab, iron-iron from Elkad.. Well, either Elkad attacks before i get rifles and then i invade.. or i get rifles, stack my Shallow border cities with rifles.. then hit him. From my sims, unless he grabs a shitload of defenders asap, i should capture 3-4 cities by turn 3 of the war. Whether i keep, or raze depends on if Shallow rips into Elkad or not.
My best hope for winning this ( as Shallow has caught up and passed me in gnp ) is to use my current military advantage to grab land from Elkad. But i need to do that while also defending from A: a counter attack of all of Elkad's praets + knights.. and B: Shallow could potentially make this a really really long fight by invading me instead of Elkad. If we split Elkad, im fairly sure i would come out on top. UNLESS Elkad becomes vengeful for the breaking of sacred iron-iron deals. Ect. We both im betting, have decided not to put EP into each other for fear that the other will get suspicious/ gotta take down the monster sized Shallow.
TLDR- Ive slipped below Shallow due to city count + wonders and i need to use my military while i have it without causing myself to look weak. ( so leaving all my cats/ a stack of knights or something. )

Started Oxford in the cap, Replaceable parts will bring that down a turn or two, along with putting me in 1st for production at least till Shallow gets there. Rifling im still trying to decide if building wealth, and just going hammer down towards it is best, or just cruising there and building Cuirs to keep my power up is better.. what i would give for a shallow vs elkad war. Somehow i dont think that is going to end up happening. Its more likely, Shallow or myself will declare war, and the whomever isnt in a war decides who gets dogpiled/loses. As it stands now, Shallow doesnt NEED to declare war on anyone, and can cruise to a win.. so im willing to bet that he isnt going to declare. Elkad needed a war like... 50 turns ago to stay even on tech. I need an excuse to potentially throw the game to Shallow and declare on elkad and try and take as much land as i can.. and that excuse will be rifling + 10-20 rifles. Those rifles will reinforce whatever cities i need protected from the praets/cats/knights that elkad could send back at me.
Anyway.. its bed time, so here are 19 pics.
