Politics Discussion Thread (Heated Arguing Warning)

Well I now call AZ and FL. Winning the Senate in 2020 wouldn't make a big difference because the DEMs will be too cowardly to abolish the filibuster after Trump's win for two years and that's all it would take.

I have to say again that ND gift-wrap was really dumb and cost the DEMs a lot. If they won it would be only two incumbents lost in states that weren't legit victories in the first place so they would be able to blow it off and say BLUE WAVE YEAR and have a lot of momentum going into 2020. FL was also a tie so they might have gotten over the finish line in that race too.

I just dont get why anyone votes for anything above their local governments. Too much greed/corruption involved with either party once you get to the state and federal level.

I just found out that FL was also gift-wrapped due to a bad ballot design that cost Bill Nelson 30k votes. So the DEMs should have won FL and ND for 51 seats which is -1 with AL-S. Blue wave year.

Can you explain?

There are 25k less votes for the senate race than for the governor race in Broward county, probably due to bad ballot design. Given that currently Scott is winning by 15k votes and that that county broke 70/30 for Nelson it's possible that Nelson would have edged it if that ballot had been clearer. It's pretty stupid.

I live in Broward County and I have to admit I missed it the first time, but I went back because it was one of the two races I was most interested in voting on.

Dumb libertarian is a tautology, but how can a libertarian be anti-abortion? Isn't the whole point of their "ideology" that free choice>everything. Shouldn't they be the most hardline Pro-choicers?
Can you pack a couple more insults into a single sentence?  Maybe something scatological?

<Sigh> I really don't want to debate this online, especially not given the tenor of some of the posting that has occurred in this thread before (possibly including my own), but I feel morally obligated to say that anti-abortion is far from an insult (not that I think that is what you meant, Mardoc). No comment as to any other aspect of anything under discussion.

I thought about trying to explain that all it takes to reconcile anti abortion with libertarian is to posit that non aggression principle applies to all people even unborn but got halfway through writing it when I realized japper didn't want to debate, or understand, just to throw out insults. I gave up.

I have a friend who is (was) an anarcho-capitalist. I used to be pretty dismissive of libertarian ideologies, but he persuaded me otherwise. I'm too much of a Tory to have changed philosophies, but libertarians aren't dumb (well, there are people in every group who haven't put the requisite thought in, but not enough to make a rule of!).
