I don't give a flying fuck about your stupid conspiracy theories, anyone with half a brain has gotten vaccinated at this point. The people that are left are not worth engaging with.

While I completely agree with the sentiment (more precisely, the amount of energy needed to convince anti vaxxers at this point is way too big to ask anyone to try doing it), it's not completely true. The vaccination ceiling isn't set in stone, as is proved by the fact that in some countries it's much higher than in others. For example Spain is about 90% vaccinated even though there have been very little government coercion compared to its neighbors. The main reasons for the difference between countries seem to be prior-to-2020 views on vaccination and confidence in government.
To help change the subject. Who is shocked, shocked I say that Ron Johnson "I won't run for a 3rd term" is running for a 3rd term?
So Johnson always struck me as bored rich guy gets into politics. You know the classic politically story. Was it the power or publicity that caused him to turn into a classic right wing nut super spreader of misinformation about both the vaccine and the election? Edit: already can't wait for the non stop political ads

So, to do a quick check, Americans drone strike an aid worker in the employ of their own NGO and a bunch of other civilians nearby, of which 7 were children. Internal probe says no laws were violated, public doesn't raise a fuss, nobody gets punished. Honestly it looks like the american public as a whole views these people as subhumans.
The drone strike program is seen by many in the American public, myself included, as a poorly run mistake (it really doesn't make a ton of strategic sense at the scale they were doing even if it had been well run). If there is anything that can be said for that incident its about when the Biden administration cut way back in the use. But yes, sadly it isn't a shock to see no accountability.
Certain media (including NY Times, the link you shared) covered it extensively and were highly critical that they offered hush money to the victims' families but held no accountability to those responsible. I'm not educated enough to have an opinion, but I've read that the laws are specifically written to protect the operators as there is a certainty of collateral damage.
I guess Biden cut back because we left. Certainly Obama made extensive use of them. Darrell
I mean yes drone strikes stopping in Afghanistan and Pakistan makes sense, but we also used drones quite a bit in Yemen and Somalia. Certainly not the sheer numbers as Afghanistan, but my understanding is that the number used in other areas has still gone down. Either way I'm in favor of extensive oversight and I also think it was and will continue to be a stain on Obama.
In a more tense situation, what do people think will happen with Russia and Ukraine?
I'm guessing minor incursion by "rebel" forces and then some kind of peace. Something to signal Russia is serious, but not willing to risk full war. In the drone strike, they mixed up two cars and ended up with the wrong target. However it still shows how little they also care about civilian casualties, as they knew the target's whole family was there, including many children, and they still made the drone strike. Russia wouldn't want a full war, but they could be relying on the rest of the world not calling their bluff. I don't have faith in the rest of the world coming to Ukraine's aid. |
