Gandhi of France: The Non-Violent Warrior

What about the t142 GM? Is that possible to make that a GA? With the lesser bulbs from non-GS great people, and with economics not being a hugely important tech target, that might be a good one. I just view securing a swath of that grassland as being a pretty powerful use of a great person.

Agree that we should probably swap the merchant for an artist if we can, as economics is only useful for the GM and with Spullarise having Edu already we probably won't be able to grab it.

I still think we should be able to grab it, Team Spullarise are going to be focusing on setting up to lib the best tech they can at this point and probably will not be thinking about taking economics.

Nonetheless, I am not married to bulbing economics, and repurposing the t142 GM to be a GA is fine by me. The pool won't be completely pure but we'll have ~90% odds of getting the GA. I'll reconfigure Sedan when the game gets cranked back up.

Shoot, what location exactly did you have in mind for setting off the bomb?

PBEM23 Spoiler

For example, look at PBEM23 where N7 could have nabbed economics at any point and still have an undisputed claim to it. After taking one fairly worthless tech at lib, you simply have greater priorities: like getting military techs online. Economics has always, in almost every game that I've read here, been the sloppy seconds for whichever player is 2nd in the race for liberalism.

I'm beginning to think the south may be somewhat mirrored.

I've highlighted the sections that clearly match up. It looks like I'm in the middle of Sulla's 'Abraham Plains' equivalent location and he hasn't settled it yet.

I don't mean to brag but:

jive

This is my civ at the end of t135 running 100% science. Not bad for a civ that was seriously behind the expansion curve just eighteen turns ago.

GNP

2nd in GNP, ahead of three financial civs, before getting an academy up. I can produce roughly 220 beakers running max science. For t135, I ran 80% science for 200 beakers and about a 90 gold deficit. This figure is somewhat inflated by the half-dozen artists I'm running, who each produce 4 culture and a beaker. But still, impressive I think. When my academy goes up next turn, I'll be getting a ~30 beaker boost. The problem is that my breakeven rate is at 30% science, producing 100 beakers (7th place). My lack of gold buildings and cottages combined with rapid expansion means I have pretty steep costs, even if my research rate is really good.

MFG

2nd Place! Helped by the fact that I haven't been whipping for a couple turns.

Crop Yield

4th Place! Despite running almost a score of specialists. If I wasn't running any specialists, it would be about 35 food higher than it is, though obviously my GNP amount would be less to account for this.

Power

7th Place, but ahead of the rival average at least.

Land

2nd Place! With nearly 1.5 times as much land as the rival average. The bordern expansion at Verdun at EOT pushed me back into first.

Haha I like how both you and WK post demog screenshots after my city gets razed. You realize one of the civs you passed was me right? (or sometimes the only like in WK's mfg stat or I think Dave's crop yield)

shhh Don't rain on my parade wink

Tis true though, was mostly happy with my GNP stat.

So, Sulla has decided to be a pain:

I reworked the Trafalgar build queue and inserted a pair of triremes. Now would be a really bad time to have my shipping interdicted. I should be able to sweep it out without any difficulty, he just will get eyes on Aboukir Bay and pillage by fishing boats before I do. Tis confirms the Sullan city I spotted is coastal, as it looks like it almost certainly came from that direction.

I've already queued up a second WB to be chopped out of Verdun to replace the boats, without delaying Angkor Wat.

I didn't realize until recently just how amazing Aboukir Bay is. I thought it would just give me another IC trade route in all my cities, but it turns out it gives ICTR's in ALL team cities. That's roughly a 30 commerce boost from one city alone, not counting the trade routes, merc specialist and tiles worked by the city itself. Had I known that, I would have founded the city earlier, and prioritized a second one to get the full complement of IC Trade routes for all the team's cities.

As it is, I'm founding my second one on that island to the east in the next ten turns. I've redirected the sentry longbow to garrison this city right off the bat. My galley will be making a pair of trips in the coming turns. The first to drop off the two longbows, the second to ferry over a settler and worker. Need to come up with a new city name...

There are two more visible ICTR islands, but they're farther away. I may or may not be able to settle them, depending on what Sulla does. Shoot has one to found to his northeast in the event I'm unable to found my second, so we can still get a full loadout of ICTR's.

Okay, back to focusing on the game after our break of sorts. I reviewed and reworked the relevant city micro, and now again have a good idea what I'm doing.

So, some random thoughts and updates on what's going on in the game.

T134

I was chatting with Shoot while I was playing t134, and accidentally pressed enter twice, ending the turn before I moved everything. I had fortunately micro'd all my cities, but I ended up losing 4 worker turns, screwed up my Agincourt micro, and got my 9 hammers in a warrior in Waterloo upgraded into a spear since I hooked up iron this turn and forgot to trade it away duh

Fortunately, I was able to rework Agincourt to produce missionaries on the same turns at the cost of some food in the foodbox, the worker turns were not critical, and I figured I would use the hammers in the spear to convert into a pikeman - inserting a warrior in te queue in Crecy to make up for the lost MP.

Our Plucky Little Archer

Thoth killed my archer scouting north of Sulla with a HA. I say we kill Team #4 for this offense.

Pikes

Regardless of our decision to plant Pink Dot in the south, I'm going to need pikes. I'm churning out a few last MPs from Crecy, then I'm taking one of my irons back from WK on t140. I would like to produce a few knights during the same time frame, but I doubt I will be able to.

Defending the Middle Front City

One of the holes in my current plan was the lack of a decent defender in my middle front city when it would be founded. I worked in a 3xp longbow out of May, 1940 to make this viable.

Expansion

Having sealed off the south, I'm now focusing my expansion in the north and northeast. I have four cities due to be founded between t140-t150. I should be able to seal off the northern nexus sometime around t155 and REX into the jungled grassland north of me. Shoot and WK, if either of you wants to take a stab at dot-mapping that puppy, go ahead. There are a lot of ways it could be done and I've only given it cursory attention so far. I have a lot of excellent backfill sites in my south and southwest, so the sooner WK can start supplying me with IMP settlers, the better.

Note to Self: We need to complete that road between us west of Sedan.

I'm tentatively pencilling in Abraham Plains or Dien Bien Phu as my Forbidden Palace Locations. I'm really uncertain as to which is superior. If either of you have an opinion, I've love to hear it. I'm going to need to start thinking about courthouses at some point, as I'm soon going to be crossing 6gpt maintenance costs for each city.

This is Prince Difficulty on a Cylindrical Map. As best put by TheMapDownloader in his recent article, land is power. Let's go claim as much of that power as possible.

The Theory of Evolution

If this wasn't already apparent, I birthed Charles Darwin on my turn to go for an academy in May, 1940 next turn.

Next War

As I already stated, I could use any naval tech we have facing Sulla against the large sea to our east. He's going to be encouraged to come after me over the water since I'm slapping down cities at all the chokepoints between us. If this game stretches into the modern era, we're going to see Sirian Doctrine fleets in action over on my side of the world. Whoever controls the seas and the canal cities will have the advantage.
