The most expensive FFH/EitB is the refugees event. You can pay 100g to buy a free settler. The next most expensive one is the Great Engineer one, where you can pay 50g for a Supplies or 75g for a Great Engineer.
Regarding the city site, do you have a plan for feeding that city? It looks like it's almost all hills. 2S of the marker will grab a floodplain but make you a bit more spread out. Actually, I think there are forests on a couple of riverside grasslands, so that's probably a good way to feed people. You'll probably want to pre-farm the grassland 1N of the marker, too, since it's already in your territory.
I think grassland farms under agrarianism are enough food in FfH. Especially since there's no whipping, you don't need that much food on the cities anyway. But let's hope for some better food tile in the fog too.
Barring hidden resources, I'd prefer the city on the plains rather than the hill. Gold is lovely anyway! Need a settler for that spot as sson as possible. Let's make early mining worth it!
Edit: My knowledge about FfH events points to the same thing as Ranamar. 100 gold is what you need to be safe.

Event gold is increased by the inflation rate, so if inflation is e.g. 15%, you need 115 gold for the immigrant event.

This is to get a tighter packing of cities for defensivability, ya?
I wasn't trying to get a full BFC, I really wasn't, honest. I was thinking about defense for the city. At least short-term, to save on warrior expenses and to be able to found it earlier.
And 3 farmable grasslands - equal to 3 dry rice in BtS? Plenty food.

I seem to recall there are some more expensive events in the mix. Isn't the necromantic orb event something like 300 gold?
I'm not sure what the prereqs are for that to occur; I've only seen it in the late game.

Turn 40
A mine has finished in my capital, worker well on way. Settler next, I guess.
Sorry for not scouting enough and spawning an ultimately pointless discussion about food for goldville.

Wet corn. Sure, why not. The way the river runs, it really seems like on the hill will be a lot better protected from barbs. Can found it with 1 warrior and another in the area on zone defense.
My north. I think I can settle a city 1 W of bronze and stuff it with 2 warriors. 1 SW is closer to my lands, but won't have much in the way of food. Ever. 1 NW on a hill but even farther. 1W has good production, so after AC it can get a monument, farm tundra for an okay surplus in addition to the cows.
The west. Demon on way to another pillage. May I get 20 gold from this. And not too pissed gtAngel. Next I need to avoid the scorpion I popped and get home to my lands. He can stand guard over my bronze city, wherever it may be.

No emails from gtAngel about the missing mine - but the Sidar thread was updated, so maybe it has been noticed.
Demos:
I really am no 2 guy here, am I not. But GnP should be sidar, other categories the Orcs.

Pics to follow.
Set research to BW.
Scout found a hut for 42 gold.
Workers working, one lazily. New finished.
Settler will be 7 turn build.
And Serdoa's MfG hit the roof, and his power is growing. He is definately attacking someone. Not sure what I can do, except hope it isn't me.

Damn, that's awesome land. Lots of food and happiness, lots of rivers. Keep churning out those settlers! Regarding Serdoa, I think your strategy is sound. Let's hope he doesn't attack us and keep on going peacefully.

Turn 41 - the good, the bad
Aha, so that's a wheel. Right. Glad we got a-round to figuring out that.
So I found a hut. 42 gold. At least not a map.
A zoomed-out shot, showing how close I am to the south. I'm gonna go pillage the lumber mill, then see if there is a path to the graveyard.
Graphs. Leaving these in the open for effect.
Do not be alarmed.
Be very, very afraid.

I am Molachs paranoid self.
I notice everyone is updating their threads now.
The Clown tends to do it regularly, but both Sidar and Orcs? Plotting to destroy me, nasssty orcsesss and ssssshadows.
Turn 42
Stunned by the realization that, despite being the Hippus' empire most powerful unit, they did not know how to pillage an old lumber mill for cash, our intrepid scouts decided on a slightly more northern route. Their new mission was to scout in a crescent outside Hippus known lands, starting with this infestation of ancient forests.

Go this way onto the hill. Or maybe SW last move if something fun is there. Then explore northwards along the river, and see if the hut I saw turn 1 is still here.
Our demons did their thing, evil buggers.
And a bit tempted by this. Wonder if this is within my range....

I'm close to the point where upkeep will be a problem. So some sense in building quality troops. It will not take 8 turns, another mine will complete before long. But I need 1 more warrior for zone defense before I can safely found new city I thinks. Maybe after. Got a conga chain of workers making a road connection, completes in 4 turns. (gotta remember to micro to grow then). Another mine gonna get built then. And farm for gold city. And then the gold. And the road connection. Hm. Maybe yet another worker from this city isn't such a bad idea. Then Serdoa can laugh at my pitiful defenses when he attacks me in 5 turns.
Capital went for settler, 7 turns away.
Demos:
Well, not sure why serdoa would go against me rather than Sidar. They are probably closer to Sidar, who also have less power. The war declaration probably means he passed through Sidar lands, so he should have better map info than with me as well. So not gonna cripple myself building needless units.
