and Amerika was once again the first to die.
Truly, the Mall is a rather useless UB imho ... late game UU-ish things usefulness should be proportionate to when they arrive, more or less. A small bonus in the early game and a large bonus in the late game are roughly equivalent.

The winner of the prediction contest was "Parkin".
Also, I am really looking forward to next week's game. If it's on Sunday, that's fine --- I'll watch it on replay the Friday or Saturday after it.

Thanks to everyone who had a chance to watch yesterday's match. Parkin did have the top score, with a lot of others closely following. I agree that Game Seven was probably the best one thus far, although yesterday's Game Eight was also highly entertaining, and a massive bloodbath towards the end. Anyway, here are the links for the next game:

I've changed Portugal to a white civ color to distinguish it from the nearby green of the Ottomans. Note that next week's game is currently planned for SUNDAY April 26, not the normal Saturday. Good luck sorting out the 11 AIs in the Wildcard game!

I actually won a round? Wow, I thought I was boned when I saw Pacal won.
The wildcard game is pretty tough to pick! I feel like Joao, Mehmed, Saladin and Hatty are generally the stronger leaders out of the bunch... but in such a large group almost anything could happen.
Definitely looks like a competition between Darius and Hammurabi as to who can die first though. :P

I wasn't sure if that was actually you, given that it was missing "Lord" at the beginning.
As far as this game, it is definitely a tough one to pick. I actually chose Joao to win this one, though I don't really have a strong reason for that. I think Zara second (mainly because he'll be able to survive enough in his back pocket) and Peter the first to die given that he's surrounded by 4 peaceful neighbors who will dislike him.

Yeah, that's me. Habit I've picked up in recent years due to too many people abbreviating my username as "Lord". If it's abbreviated I prefer "Parkin" or "LP".

Nice pick, Parkin. I'm curious, do you sim these much? I tried once but that one had Darius and Asoka winning so I stopped

I simmed a bunch of games last year, recorded the results in a spreadsheet, and used some statistical analysis to rank the leaders from #1 to #52 according to their average performance. Not particularly reliable since my sample size was only about 10 games per leader, plus the games each had 17 civs rather than 6-12... but I find it's at least good for getting a feel for the average performance of a leader. Of course a lot always depends on the terrain and neighbours, so I usually adjust my bets slightly based on the map.
That said, my total score in this competition isn't particularly good, so my system clearly isn't that reliable. Random factors usually dominate the outcome of these games, which is actually a good thing - AI Survivor wouldn't be nearly so entertaining to watch if the outcome was always predictable.
